We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Slocum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had a passion for photography growing up, my dad bought me my first digital camera at about 8-10 years old. I took that thing with me everywhere and took pictures of EVERYTHING! From there, it blossomed into covering sports for my high school yearbook & taking my friends’ senior photos. Along this journey, I swore up and down that I would never make it a job & I liked it being my hobby because I didn’t want the money to ruin it for me… Turns out, it was a great idea to turn my passion into my job, and I love it that much more because I’ve always had that deep rooted love for photography. As an adult, I’ve realized it is so much better to work for yourself for so many reasons- creative freedom, scheduling is easier, I have the ability to take on what I want to, I only have to worry about myself and my own clients, among so much more.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One thing I feel sets me apart from others in this industry is the desire to connect with my clients and their stories to really create art that we are both proud of and love. It has taken me a long time to get where I’m at now, and I know that there is always room to grow! I’m always ready for the next thing that I can do that will help me thrive both creatively and professionally. If there’s one thing to know about my brand, it’s that I LOVE love stories. I’m a sucker for the sappy, cute storytelling images that are worth a thousand words.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout has to go to my family & clients! My dad jumpstarted this love for photography for me very young, and the rest of my family has been nothing but supportive on this journey of mine. My clients are INCREDIBLE people that I have the most joy working with & capturing their special moments.
