We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Brundrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted the world to know what different areas of Texas tasted like, and I thought there was a major gap in the market. I also wanted to create an amazing place for people to work, something I hadn’t experienced in my professional life, and I thought I could do better.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We produce low-intervention Texas-grown wines. Being named in the top 100 on the World’s Best Vineyards list has been very exciting and has given us the recognition and confirmation that we are on the right track producing some of the best wines in the world. While I would have made a great trust fund baby, I wasn’t one. We started our company with $40,000 and an American Express for two reasons: to share with people what the amazing areas of Texas taste like and to have a great place for people to work. A relentless focus on those two things has gotten me this far, and they still ring true and are expressed in our company’s mission: to grow the good life for our fans, for our team, and for our investors. Heck no, it hasn’t been easy. Surrounding myself with good people, being vulnerable, and understanding that every day I have many things to learn. A child-like curiosity and fresh eyes have been super valuable. I am less concerned about what people remember about me and more concerned with leaving a positive impact on the world, i.e., leaving the community and the industry in better shape because I was in it. Growing the good life for our team, our fans, and our investors.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Texas, I love to visit Denver. On a recent trip, I enjoyed MeowWolf. I look forward to reaching other recommendations.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, my wife, Katharine, has stuck with me through many dark alleys. People who have been a part of our team over the years have meant the world to me. The Tim Ferris podcast has gotten me through a lot and helped me find new mountains to climb. One of my favorite books is Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday.
