Meet Benjamin Krohn | Founder – Velocity Entertainment LLC.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Benjamin Krohn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Benjamin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The inspiration behind starting Velocity stems from a deep personal passion. From a young age, I attended parties in Miami and was captivated by the vibrant community and music. This led me to think, “Why not create these experiences myself?” This idea evolved into a company named After Dark, where we organized events and managed artists in Miami.
Upon moving to Denver, I wanted to continue sharing that passion and contribute to the local scene. With this in mind, we rebranded and relaunched as Velocity. Our commitment to delivering high-quality hypnotic techno in a safe environment remains at the core of what we do.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Velocity’s concept may not be groundbreaking, as many event companies aim to host impactful community events. However, what sets us apart is our dedicated team and attendees. We meticulously plan each party, paying attention to details like equipment setup, venue layout renderings, and brainstorming sessions for new and exciting acts.
Running this business has its challenges. We often invest countless personal hours each week, sometimes with minimal financial return. Our motivation has always been fueled by passion rather than profit. While it might seem contradictory, our goal isn’t to maximize earnings but to generate enough to continue hosting events. This perspective means we approach each event as potentially our last, never taking our opportunities for granted.
From a financial standpoint, I’ve learned valuable lessons about risk assessment. It’s crucial to outline all costs before committing to any project. This approach helps us gauge the potential risks and decide whether the effort is worthwhile. Typically, we avoid projects with more than a 50% associated risk. Over time, we’ve learned the true implications of this decision both internally and externally.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver is a truly vibrant city, with a lot to do depending on your interests. I host a monthly dinner club with a few friends so there really are plenty of very good places to eat, contrary to popular belief.
For a week long trip, must eat places would include Daughter Thai, Uncle Ramen, Linger, Adelitas, Pit Fiend, La Chiva, Okinawa. There are truly so many choices but I find myself frequenting those places most for various reasons. Music scene wise, my current favorite is a new venue called Stay Tuned. This venue has a variety of music but tends to stick more to house/disco and the ambiance paired with high-quality audio is ideal to me. There are a lot of venues depending on your music taste from there. 1134 is similar to Stay Tuned and I frequent there to support friends & dope headliners. Otherwise love checking out live music at Levitt Pavilion or Red Rocks, and if you like Jazz, Nocturne Jazz Club is a tasty experience.
You can’t come to Denver and not experience the outdoors. I always suggest a hike at Mt Galbraith followed by lunch at Golden Mill for first timers. I personally do that one a lot in the summer. Otherwise I am on my bike a ton and love hitting little restaurants along the Platte and Cherry Creek trails.
& final tidbit – Meow Wolf is a great way to burn a few hours!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to personally thank the members of the Denver community that made the transition here feel very welcoming. Starting off with two people who are entrenched in this community and provided me my first opportunities as both a DJ and event promoter; Alex Frick and Camilo Ruiz. Meeting them opened a lot of doors for me professionally and personally.
Finally, need to shout out the core members of my team who keep me sane and focused – Myles Valle & Isaiah Villegas!
