Meet Katy Jaquez | Luxury Hairstylist and Full Time Mom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katy Jaquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katy, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I learned how to braid my own hair when I was only 4yrs because my mom would always braid my hair so tight. From then on I always experimented with fun updos/braids for the remainder of my childhood. Then when I became an adult I chose to actually go to school for nursing. I found it to be rewarding but not creative. Then in my late 20’s I decided to go do hair. I chose it because it allows me to express myself, my personality of wanting to help others feel beautiful inside and out.

What should our readers know about your business?
What I feel sets me apart from other salons is I give my clients that one on one attention at all times. I’m the only stylist in my little salon and I don’t double book myself so my clients get me all to themselves. I also work really hard to build a connection and relationship with my clients which I’m very proud of. Some of the challenges I’ve faced is dealing with stressful clients and standing up for myself and my business. I’ve learned to be confident and strict with my policies to protect my small business. I want the world to know that I’m more than a stylist. I’m a friend, confidante, someone my clients can trust and lean on. I take my job very seriously and I’m proud of that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best friend visits from Montana we usually like to go to Cherry Creek, do some shopping and eat at the Cherry Cricket. They have the best Burgers!! We also love going to Meow Wolf an interactive art museum. Denver in general is a great place to hang out to people watch especially on 16th st mall.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
After going to hair school I chose to become an assistant at a salon in Denver called Envogue. I assisted two stylists, one of them being my boss. I did this for 2yrs full time where I was put in the deep end to learn quickly. I believe the reason I have become a successful salon owner so quickly in my career is all due to this experience. I absolutely loved working for them and owe them so much.
