We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathleen Hammon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kathleen, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
One of the best decisions I’ve made, alongside starting my own business, has been prioritizing self-care. In a society that often tells us to prioritize others, especially as a woman, I’ve come to understand that taking care of myself isn’t selfish—it’s essential. When I focus on self-care, I recharge and feel ready to tackle whatever challenges come my way. I start with a full tank so I can approach everything with clarity and compassion, rather than coming from a place of burnout.

This journey of prioritizing self-care has not only helped me appreciate my strengths and accept my flaws but has also deepened my emotional awareness and self-confidence, enabling me to prioritize what truly lets me be me while building more meaningful relationships based on respect and understanding. I not only feel better but can also stay true to who I am which has been foundational to maintaining mental and emotional resilience in both my professional and personal life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Higher Shelf Organization is all about transforming lives through organization from a self-care perspective. We pride ourselves on creating customized systems that not only tidy up spaces but also nurture mental and emotional well-being. What sets us apart is our dedication to respect, understanding, and crafting solutions that last.

We offer a variety of services tailored to meet our clients’ needs, including free consultations, personalized in-home sessions, virtual coaching, downsizing support, moving assistance, estate and yard sale coordination, as well as services for small businesses. Each service is designed to help clients reclaim their space and find peace of mind.

Personally, I find immense pride in seeing the positive impact our work has on clients’ lives. Witnessing them transform their space and improve their overall well-being is incredibly fulfilling. As we continue to grow, I’m excited about reaching more individuals and helping them embrace a more intentional way of living.

Starting and growing Higher Shelf Organization hasn’t been without its challenges. Alongside managing the business, I’ve also managed my journey with Panic Disorder, which has taught me the importance of authenticity and self-care. Overcoming societal pressures and self-doubt has been a journey of self-discovery and resilience. It’s taught me that true success comes from staying true to myself and focusing on long-term solutions.

What I want the world to know about Higher Shelf Organization is that we’re more than just a business—we’re advocates for mindful living. Our mission is to empower clients to create spaces that reflect their inner strength and peace, helping them navigate life’s ups and downs with clarity and confidence. My personal journey fuels my passion to support others on their paths to self-discovery and personal growth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a 5th-generation Coloradoan and a 2nd-generation Denverite, I’d want to showcase our city’s vibrant mix of culinary delights, cultural explorations, and unique activities.

Kick off mornings at Lucille’s Creole Cafe for hearty Southern breakfasts or head to City O’ City for amazing vegetarian options. Weekends are perfect for brunch at Safta, where they offer an impressive Middle Eastern-inspired spread.

For lunch, explore the Denver Milk Market, sampling a variety of vendors, indulge in Italian-American classics at Gaetano’s, or enjoy some of Denver’s best Soul Food at Welton St. Cafe.

Evenings would be spent diving into Denver’s diverse food scene—savoring unique rolls at Osaka Sushi, trying modern American cuisine at The Bindery, tasting artisanal pasta at Restaurant Olivia, or enjoying Mexican dishes at El Tequileno. And, for dessert, a visit to Liks Ice Cream, Rosales Mexican Bakery for pastries, or the interactive delights of The Inventing Room is a must.

Between meals, we’d immerse ourselves in Denver’s artsy side, exploring places like Spectra Art Space, the Clyfford Still Museum, or taking a leisurely stroll through the Santa Fe art district. History buffs might enjoy the Molly Brown House or 4 Mile Historic Park.

At night, Denver offers entertainment options aplenty—stand-up comedy at Comedy Works, murder mysteries at Adams Mystery Playhouse, or laid-back drinks at spots like TrashHawk Tavern or Candlelight Tavern. Wine aficionados can indulge in tastings at places like Bigsby’s Folly or Blanchard Family Wines

And, finally, to round out the experience, you’d want to catch some live music at iconic venues such as the Bluebird or Fillmore, or enjoying City Park Jazz during the summer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to CAMP, an incredible community of women entrepreneurs who have truly shaped my journey. At CAMP, we create an inclusive and collaborative space where we not only celebrate each other’s successes but also learn from our shared experiences. They actively foster creativity, resilience, and sustained business success, especially for women entrepreneurs in their first five years of business.

What sets CAMP apart is the understanding that entrepreneurship is as much about personal growth as it is about professional development. Their diverse programs cover a wide range of topics that enhance business skills while promoting personal development. The mentorship, encouragement, and support I receive from CAMP empower me daily to tackle challenges and stay true to my entrepreneurial vision. I am deeply grateful for the guidance, knowledge, and inspiration that CAMP provides, and I feel privileged to be part of such a dynamic and empowering community.
