Meet Nate & Anna Castner | Photographers

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nate & Anna Castner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nate & Anna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We both had jobs we didn’t really LOVE; it felt like a grind going into work every day. We both really enjoyed photography, it was a hobby of ours that was very fulfilling, that helped capture all of the fun and the memories of trips we went on, special occasions with friends and family, and the little details of life. We had the opportunity to photograph a friend’s wedding as a gift to them, and totally fell in love with documenting a wedding day! It’s such a special occasion where all of your friends and family from everywhere come together to celebrate the joining of two peoples hearts, souls, and families. It’s a celebration of love. We decided that we enjoyed it so much that we should start our own photography studio to turn our hobby and passion into a business and job that we loved! Here we are 10 years later and still get excited for each and every wedding! We LOVE our jobs now! We knew that we would only feel fulfilled if we had a career where we were pursuing something we were passionate about, and the fact that we get to do this together is our dream come true!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We really focus on being present in the moment, not only ourselves, but prompting our couples to focus on each other. We operate as photojournalists with the intention of capturing real emotions and moments as they’re happening. By working as a team, one of us can be talking to and directing the couple while the other one gets the settings dialed in and ready to catch those moments.
We’re constantly looking for how to improve, everything from our communication with our clients, to our directing, shooting, through editing, post production, and delivery. We’re always seeking improvement and refinement. This attention to detail and mastering our craft has helped us develop a beautiful portfolio from years of shooting all over the country in all sorts of settings, condition, and situations. It certainly wasn’t easy to build up our business to where we are today, there are lots of other photographers out there for couples to choose from, but we feel strongly that not only is the work we create beautiful, but the process of working with us is also a great experience.
What you get by working with us is a family studio and a personal connection.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most people visit Boulder for the easy access to the beautiful mountains, so we’d recommend starting your day with a stop at Snooze on Pearl St for an Eggs Benedict to fuel up for your day. You have to visit Chautauqua Park to see the Flatirons and choose a hike that could range from a quick 1 mile scenic walk to a 10 mile climb to the top of Green Mountain. After that, a 15 min drive up Flagstaff Mountain will get you to Lost Gulch Overlook where you can get sprawling views of the Indian Peaks and the city of Boulder below. If you’d like a fancy dinner, Flagstaff House will blow your mind, but Boulder also has tons of great options for dinner. Jai Pur is our favorite restaurant!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to give a shoutout to those madly in love couples who trust us to document their wedding days! Each of you inspire us with your love stories, and not only do you support our family business by choosing to work with us, but you fuel our passion for what we do through the love that you share with each other. It’s an honor to work with a couple at this special point in their love story!
