We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Utermoehl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jack, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting Asivana Yoga was driven by my passion for yoga and the desire to bring people together. I envisioned creating a space where fellow yogis could learn, discover, and connect with themselves and others. I wanted to provide a supportive community with high-quality resources and products that enhance the yoga experience. By bringing people together with self, knowledge, and the materials we need for our yoga practice, I hope to serve yoga practitioners on their hero’s journey.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Here’s a refined response for the question:

At Asivana, we lead with the principles of Bhakti. I believe in leading with my heart and letting the flow of bhav (love and devotion) guide our actions. As a yoga teacher, I am blessed to present at yoga festivals and guest teach at yoga teacher trainings (YTTs) across the United States.

My journey to founding Asivana has been evolving for decades. I have a background in IT, management, and consulting, and navigating through these fields has ultimately led me to my deepest passion—yoga. While the path hasn’t always been clear, I’ve always known my destination. Understanding my end goal has allowed me to view obstacles as integral parts of the journey rather than hindrances.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is the paramount importance of our connections with others. Our community, friends, and family are what truly matter at the end of the day, year, and life. They shape our thoughts, actions, and presence. This realization has deeply influenced my approach to business.

Asivana Yoga is the culmination of my experiences, embodying what I believe matters most: coming together, understanding yoga as a practice of union in mind, body, and spirit, and evoking love for one another. This is the essence of our brand and story, and it is what sets us apart.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would certainly be attending a few yoga classes across the valley. Spend a day downtown Grand Junction to view the shops, grab a bagel, and explore the history of this town. Then we’d drive 10 minutes and hike the National Monument exploring the high desert and canyon lands. Wrapping up we’d float the river to cooldown.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my incredibly inspirational yoga community at Bhakti House Yoga Studio, my friends and family for their support, and my partner for being on this life long yoga journey with me.

I also want to express my gratitude to my mentor, Manoj Chalam, whose guidance, humor, and depth of knowledge have profoundly influenced my path. Lastly, the many teachers along the way, some who have transitioned and others I cannot name.

Their influence has guided me down a path towards self-mastery and self-realization.
