We had the good fortune of connecting with Lena Ve and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lena, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Have you ever heard of the saying, “Self care is not an expense, it’s an investment?” I wanted to emphasize the idea that taking care of yourself is not just about spending time or money on indulgent activities, but about investing in your well-being for the long term. By prioritizing self-care, you’re ensuring that you have the energy, mental clarity, and the emotional balance to handle life’s challenges more effectively. It’s about recognizing that when you nurture your physical, emotional, and mental health, you’re creating a foundation that supports every other aspect of your life. With that, I create a safe space for my clients to be open & comfortable with me for what they share & to build their self esteem.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I learned there was more than just the beauty application to an individual. One of those things is being able to customize treatments. With that, I am able to assess each client’s unique skin type, concerns, and goals, and then create personalized treatment plans. This requires creativity in combining techniques, products, and treatments to achieve the best results. As I started out by doing lashes, this is a service that requires precision & an eye for detail that I didn’t know I had. With this type of service, I would have understood the balance and symmetry of a face to create shapes and looks that enhance a client’s natural beauty which I find so fascinating because I take pride in my work in ensuring my client is happy with their turnout. This sets me apart from others by having ambition. Ambition is not a skill that can be taught as I have been told by many others, that ambition is one of my stronger traits. As my own business owner, I am able to create a relaxing environment for my clients through choosing soothing colors, lighting, scents, and sounds, which requires a creative touch & accents to attract the right type of clients. However, the fun in all of this is Problem Solving! When addressing complex skin issues, or concerns on a lash service, I will often need to think creatively to find solutions & rectify the situation to maintain a reputable business & a good retention of clientele. Overall, the blend of technical skill and artistic vision is what makes my work both creative and rewarding.
I was unexpectedly laid off from my job back in 2021 after completing eyelash extension courses. I don’t want to say it was easy, nor was it hard, but i managed to flow through as I had completed college may 2021 that going back to school for my esthetician license was going to be a walk in the park.
The lessons I have learned along the way is that I am only in control of my own thoughts, feelings, & actions & however people respond is not within my control, but to take things with a grain of salt.
My motto, “To be kind to yourself. To be you – not them,” was formed through my personal introduction and journey within the beauty industry. This has motivated me to become an advocate in the world of self love, self worth, and self-care. My duty is to ensure and encourage all of my beauties to radiate from outside to within through the services I offer.
Beauty doesn’t define one’s worth, but prioritizing self-care gives women & men an indescribable sense of power. Sometimes as individuals, we forget to put ourselves first or lose value in the smallest of routines due to life simply getting ahead of us.
The services I provide creates a reminder that it is okay to slow down. You can never pour from an empty cup.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recently had a friend who flew in from Ohio back in April and she had never visited Colorado before that I made sure she had the time of her birthday celebration. I had a whole weekend planned for her that the Thursday she flew in, we had gone to see Matt Rife perform at Bellco Theatre after having dinner at Tamayo downtown. For Friday I took her to munchies & Mimosas. On Saturday, took her to see Dom Dolla at Red Rocks. Sunday, I took her to take her first flower shot at Zanzibar as she also wanted to check out the Coyote Ugly bar inside 16th street mall. Then I took her to my favorite bar, el patio where we were able to stand side by side onstage with a female DJ @cruxmyheart & watch her perform all the while also making appearances at a friends grand opening downtown & attending an underground rave. She got to meet my Colorado friends that her next visit is going to be a hiking one as this first visit was more so the party life as that was how I initially met her!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my parents, mama Khan & papa Tony. Without the nudge of my mother encouraging me to focus on my business & the patience my parents had in allowing me to start my business from the basement, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They have been so supportive in pointing me in the right direction on the expansion of my work that altogether, we help bring each other business. To my girls, Diana & Jocelyn for being the two closest beautiful individuals that survived esthetician school with me & have been my rock. To the rest of my friends & family who have just helped advertise my business by just being a word of mouth & helping me grow & utilize my bachelors degree of management with a concentration of Human Resources into becoming a boss woman myself.
