We had the good fortune of connecting with Tay Daniels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tay, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was 23 years old I was working a 9-5 and was pregnant, I knew I just wanted to be able to be at home with my daughter and so I searched high & low with how to work from home. At this point, I had no clue how to run a business & wasn’t thinking I would be a business owner just really wanted a work from home job. I found Virtual Assistanting which was new(er) back then and decided to quit my 9-5 at 7 months pregnant with $100 to my name, no degree, no clients, & no experience to be a General Virtual Assistant.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a Virtual Assistant Agency for Wedding Professionals as well as a Coaching Practice that helps coaches build, grow, & scale their coaching business. What sets me a part from so many others in the industry is my story + I run my business on a personal level. I create real relationships and show up as a human with my clients.
Growing my businesses was far from easy, I have been in business now for 8 years and there have been many challenges a long the way but continuing to show up even when I didn’t want to, continue to dig in and work hard even when it felt awful + investing in my business was ultimately what has led me to the success I have today.
I started my first business at 23 years old & 7 months pregnant as a Virtual Assistant. in 2018 I went through a divorce & left my abusive ex husband. At the time I was barely making enough money to survive, & some months wasn’t making enough at all. I applied for a 9-5 and went for 3 interviews before they shot me down and hired someone else. I decided to throw a Hail Mary pass in my business to try and make it work one last time. I niched down to working specifically in the Wedding Industry & grew that business to an agency 6 months later. In 2019, I transitioned into coaching & went on to grow a 6 Figure Agency & Multi 6 Figure Coaching Business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was going to visit the area, I would apologize in advance for how boring our city is, but we would definitely visit my favorite restaurants because I am a foodie at heart. We would spend a few evenings at the Plaza eating at Cooper’s Hawk & Eddie V’s. We would have a lunch or dinner at Bristol Grill as well as Gram & Dun. We would sit on the patio at Joe’s BBQ downtown to look out at the city & have a few drinks before heading to Chicken & Pickle to play pickle ball.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have impacted my journey over the last years from my parents, my spouse, a few business coaches, my clients, my team, & a few great books.
Special Shoutouts would go to the book You Are a Badass at Making Money – Jen Sincero, My husband Gary Daniels, & a past business coach Kelsey Kerslake
