We had the good fortune of connecting with Madeline Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madeline, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m a Colorado native, born and raised in Colorado Springs until I went to college in Southern California! Since then, I’ve lived in Denver, Austin and Charleston, SC. Growing up certainly had its challenges with many uncertainties at home. Through custody arrangements and divorce proceedings, I went to therapy intermittently throughout middle school and high school. Though reluctant at first, I grew to love my counseling experience in high school. My therapist helped me heal from hurts, understand my emotions, and feel more free. She made me a believer in the counseling process and gave me the inspiration to become a therapist. I wanted to be able to do for others what she had done for me. I’m incredibly grateful that now I can say that I am!

What should our readers know about your business?
I own Radiant Counseling, a remote counseling practice based out of Colorado. In my work, I’ve found that a lot of people get stuck in cycles they don’t actually want to be in. I believe that we were designed to live freely, so my hope for my clients is that they are able to heal from the wounds and limiting beliefs that keep them from living freely and with radiance.

I actually took a pivot from mental health in 2019 after getting burnt out working as a crisis counselor. I decided to take my own advice and put my own mental health first, so I worked in project management and operations for a few years. It was there that I learned about how to manage a business. It gave me the confidence I needed to believe that I actually could do it. During that time, the world also became a lot more virtual, which really set me up for success to start a remote business! (Though I wish it didn’t take a global pandemic to make that happen.)

It certainly hasn’t been easy, but it has been so rewarding to do what I was meant to do. I love walking alongside my clients as they heal from trauma and begin to live more freely. That makes any challenges I face in my business feel all the more worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting me in the Denver area, I would take them to a Red Rocks concert for sure. It’s such a unique and beautiful venue that you don’t even have to be a concert fan to enjoy the experience! I’ve also always been a fan of Golden. It feels like a little mini getaway close to town. I love the quaintness and the riverside trails nearby. It also has some great spots to grab food and drinks!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people and experiences that have gotten me to where I am today that it’s hard to pick just one, but I wouldn’t be where I am in my practice right now if it weren’t for the support of my friend and colleague Kelsey Schwartz. She and I piloted the Co-responder program with Arvada PD back in 2016. We took slightly different career directions for a bit, but she started her private practice back in 2021 so when I decided to get into private practice last year, she really paved the way for me. She gave me support and pointed me in the direction of the right places to help me get started. Now we both get to support each other as we build our businesses!
