Meet Jacob Hacker | Adventure Guide

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Hacker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacob, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I have three basic practices that help me stay level, collected, and sharp witted that play into my overall success. These three things are exercise on a regular basis, introduce myself people I don’t know, and remembering people’s names. I think exercise is one of the most important things we can do to maintain a healthy mind and body and luckily in Colorado there are many varieties of exercise we can choose ranging from mountain biking, climbing, hiking 14er’s and more! I really love doing outdoor activities so having a workout program that helps me thrive in those activities is key to my overall well being and overall success.
I think introducing myself to people is tied to my success because it’s a mindset of putting my ego aside and getting to know someone on a personal level. I think often we get to know titles and social media profiles that scratch the surface of people but there is something genuine in having an unplanned conversation with someone with no hidden motives. Which leads me into my last practice, remembering people’s names. I used to be a victim of the phrase “I’m not good with names” until I switched the saying into “I’m getting better with names” when I accidentally called someone by the wrong name. Getting to names has helped me in many professional settings especially reconnecting with colleagues and past co-workers after the stay-home phase of Covid.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an actor it is nice to be recognized as an artist even though it is not one of the traditional mediums for art. I am also not born into theatre meaning I have no relatives who have ever stepped on a stage. My mom was a nurse and my dad is the head of facilities for a university so convincing them that I have a passion and a desire to pursue acting took multiple tries. Theatre is also a realm where everything I’ve achieved I have earned. There has always been competition. I have always been the guy nobody has heard of and I’m always having to prove I am not in my younger twenties despite my looks both professionally and artistically. Breaking into a market with zero connections has been a ten year process and still have yet to sign a SAG or Equity contract even though I know I have the goods but I am enjoying the process! I love making connections on a small budget films, local commercial sets, and community theatres allowing us to create something awesome with very little. That is who I am. Most recently I was the Outback Director for a Boy Scout’s, High Adventure Outback Camp and it made me realize I am capable of some outstanding problem solving when given a leadership role. It also made me realize that being outdoors is a longing I can no longer suppress and i have a deep love and passion for the outdoors. So I become an Adventure Guide for Adventures Out West right here on the Front Range! I believe finding careers, hobbies, and friends who share the same passions and morals that align with yours is a great way to start your own personal brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I actually had this happen. But the perfect week would consist of;
Monday, acclimation hike showing my favorite spots and a little tour of where I live by driving around
Tuesday, we find a good camping spot deep into 14er country
Wednesday, we hike a 14er. We’ll just pick one because they are all good hikes. Then zipline and dinner at an all you can eat place
Thursday, Sleep in and head back to civilization stopping at small mountain towns like south park or estes on the way back. In the evening hit the movie theatre or brewery
Friday, mountain biking, we shred trails until we can’t pedal any longer
Saturday, White water rafting with my good friends at River Runners in Buena Vista.
Sunday, Send him off after breakfast at the Denver Biscuit Company that way he can sleep on the plane ride home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom and dad, Mike and Rachel Scobee. They have always been there for me and have always been patient with my growth and understanding as a person. Thanks Mom, thanks Dad.
