Meet Taylor & Taylor Pierce | Wildlife Photographers

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor & Taylor Pierce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor & Taylor, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Around two years ago, we found ourselves in the midst of busy schedules and feeling like we didn’t have time for each other. As newlyweds, it was important to us to find a hobby we could share with each other. We decided to pursue wildlife photography because it seemed to be a great blend of Taylor’s (wife) love for nature, animals, and traveling and Taylor’s (husband) passion for photography. We quickly fell in love with wildlife photography and capturing the beauty in nature. What started small with neighborhood walks in local parks has evolved to spending nearly all of our free time outside exploring and taking trips to see new wildlife.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In a way it feels weird to hear our hobby described as art, but on some level that’s what it is. For us this hobby, wildlife photography, has become so much more than a way to spend time together. It’s become a passion project. We share our love of nature and our photos with the world in the hope that our excitement encourages others appreciate the world around them.
As humans, we get so caught up in our every day lives and we tend to neglect the existence outside of our microcosm, but for us wildlife photography is the opposite of that. Every species provides a chance for us to learn more about the animal and the impact it has on its ecosystem, each hike gives us a chance to see a new place, and every photo we capture is a moment that we spent in the their world.
While this may seem like an idealistic interpretation of what we do, wildlife photography has had its challenges. For Taylor (wife), she’s had to learn the technical side of photography and editing. In addition to the technical challenges, finding the subject matter isn’t always easy. Researching habitats and previous sightings has been helpful, but there have been many hikes and many trips that haven’t resulted in the sightings we’d hoped for. This hit-or-miss tendency and at times difficulty in finding a particular animal has made this hobby all the more rewarding and encouraged both of us to work on our patience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For us the best spots are outside! We’ve had many friends and family visit us from out of state and our favorite places to take them include Chatfield State Park, Mount Blue Sky, and the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. Now if we’re feeling a little adventurous, day trips to Rocky Mountain National Park are our favorite trips to share with loved ones. We definitely stop at Coffee on the Rocks in Estes Park before starting our day. After a long day of hiking, we usually hit the Sink Pizza in Boulder on the way home, but if we grab dinner in Estes Park its going to be at Bird & Jim.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We both have been shaped by our upbringings. Taylor (wife) wouldn’t have a passion for the outdoors if it weren’t for her parents taking her on camping and fishing trips from a young age. When Taylor (husband) picked up a camera, he was met with support and encouragement from his parents. This allowed him to grow creatively and develop technical skills.
