We had the good fortune of connecting with Marc Lohse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marc, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve been building homes for around 25 years now. I started in Indiana as a high-volume
production builder, then moved on to building custom homes a few years later in
Colorado. Home has always had a special meaning for me, and I’ve loved connecting
with homeowners, subcontractors, and vendor partners, and have always loved the
creativity and the process of home building. Throughout each company I worked for,
when I was an employee, I always had the same mindset of treating each job as it was
my own and “the buck stopped with me”-so to speak. I was highly responsible, and
rarely did issues ever have to pass through me to my employer. About mid-way through
my career, I figured it was time to do it my own way. I learned a lot of great things over
the years working for other people, but I also learned a number of things that were not
so great and things that I was powerless to change and knew that to really make a
difference, I needed to build my own business. Here we are now with 11 employees and
doing things the MDH way, building beautiful homes and taking care of our
homeowners!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We specialize in custom homes and large scale remodels in Douglas County, Caste
Rock, Elbert County, Cherry Hills Village, Greenwood Village, Denver, and surrounding
areas. We closely and carefully guide our clients through architecture, design, planning,
preconstruction work, budgeting, permitting, and construction of their new custom
homes. We feel a great builder is so much more than the skills gained on homes built in
the past, and although we have had many years of experience building many different
types of homes, each having their own amenities and complexities, what makes us
unique is our approach and execution. We are so proud of the homes built by MDH and
love hearing that our clients loved their experience with us and get to live in their dream
homes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Taking in a Rockies game at Coors Field is always a great time during the a summer
evening. Dinner at any of the amazing restaurants in Cherry Creek is a fun way to
spend a date night, and bike riding On the Cherry Creek trail, or walking in Wash Park
are great ways to experience some of what the Denver area has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to recognize and thank my amazing wife and my two boys who give me the
energy and support I need to run such a busy company. I also am so thankful for my
parents who have supported this dream of mine to build homes and have always
believed in me. So thankful for friends who have been with me from the beginning and
who have been there to hear me out on days that are extra hard, and to my great team
who makes dreams come true every day.
