Meet Matt Foster | K9/pet dog trainer and Equipment manufacturer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always loved working with dogs and I have always been a business oriented person. I was a K9 handler in the Marines and worked two explosives detection dogs in Afghanistan before coming home and becoming a police officer. I then worked a dual purpose K9 for my agency and SWAT team. Finding my passion for working with dogs then got me thinking about the different things I could provide the industry from a business standpoint and it became a no brainer. Between training equipment, training K9’s and decoys, and now training pet dogs in my area, it just made sense for me to apply what I love to a business and put myself out there.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started Kingdom K-9 in August of 2022 after many talks with my wife about if I should do it or not. Ultimately the decision came down to the simple fact that I wanted to provide a product that not only helped me but that I knew no one else in the industry was making. I started building a piece of K9 training equipment called the modular training table. I made this so that I could train more on my own time with my K9 partner without having to have more than one person there. It was something that would allow us to refine our skills and provide a better more effective service to the people of our community. As time went on the table became better and better as many changes and improvements were made. It was an extremely tough process due to the simple fact that no one knew who we were and if our product was proven or not. I’m not going to lie it was extremely difficult and I learned a lot of lessons about life and business. I spent many nights up late finding new ways to market the business or new things we could offer. After two years in business we now offer over 10 different products and we also now provide pet dog training services to the people of our community. What I want people to know about our brand and story is that it is rooted in service, sacrifice, and American values. We believe in integrity in everything we do so we strive to provide the best quality products and services we possibly can. Too many people look to make a quick buck, we want to make a difference.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Depending on the time of year I would definitely take them to a Rockies game. We may not be the best team but baseball is baseball and colors field is an amazing venue with lots to offer. We would also make a trip to hanging lake and pikes peak and if we had time a trip to the Stanley Hotel so we can get a little spooky and see some more scenery. I would say we wrap it up with a nice dinner at our favorite local Parker spot Las Pontrancas for some quesa birria and margaritas!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had two big mentors in my life that influenced the business I run today. The first was my good friend Ben Rader who is retired Army and owns Rader K9. Ben trained me and my first police K9 and taught me everything I know about dog training. He also taught me to remain humble and continue to learn from as many people as possible. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t use what he taught me or call him on the phone to ask questions and learn more. The second would be my father, Steve Foster. He is an Air Force veteran and former police officer. He is now very successful in the business and tech world which he worked very hard for. He taught me so much about business and just being a man in general. I talk to my dad constantly and if we aren’t talking about day to day things in life he is coaching me in my business endeavors. We hope some day to go into business together and I very much look forward to that. Lastly I want to shout out my wife Cherise. I would not be here today without her support, grace, and love. She has been a solid rock every day through the ups and downs and I could not have done this without her there to keep me standing tall. I love you Cherise.
