We had the good fortune of connecting with Krista Gregg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krista, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When we, my husband Matt and I, first considered starting our own business, the idea felt more like a joke than a serious possibility. We both had stable careers—myself in healthcare and Matt in the automotive industry—but something about the concept of Bio-One intrigued us. After all, it wasn’t just another business idea; it was an opportunity to help people in a very real and meaningful way, during some of the darkest moments in their lives.

The thought process behind starting Bio-One was driven by the desire to make an impact. We understood that this business would allow us to be there for people when they were experiencing trauma, tragedy, or overwhelming situations. The fact that we could step in to restore both spaces and lives made the decision all the more compelling. We knew the work would be tough—physically, mentally, and emotionally—but we believed the reward of making a tangible difference would far outweigh the challenges.

Another key aspect of our decision was recognizing that the values we held personally aligned with what Bio-One stood for: compassion, integrity, and service to the community. These were the same principles we wanted to bring into any business we’d run. We also saw it as an opportunity to build something together as a family, strengthening our partnership both professionally and personally.

Ultimately, we were looking for a way to marry our skills and experiences with something that could truly help people. Bio-One gave us that chance, and it’s been one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Bio-One of Colorado, we specialize in biohazard remediation, including crime scene and trauma cleanup, hoarding remediation, homeless encampment cleanup, drug decontamination, and more. What truly sets us apart is our deep commitment to compassion. Every situation we walk into is sensitive, and we lead with care and understanding for the people involved. We’re not just cleaning up a space—we’re helping to restore normalcy for individuals and families going through tough times. Our team is highly trained, and we’re proud to offer a level of service that prioritizes the well-being of our clients above all else.

We’re most proud of the impact we’ve been able to make in the community, especially for people experiencing difficult and traumatic situations. Whether it’s providing discreet, professional help for crime scenes or supporting families who are overwhelmed by hoarding, it’s rewarding to know we can offer relief when it’s needed most. No matter how tough the situation is physically or emotionally, we always lean on the question, “If not us, then who?” and that reinforces our purpose.

Getting to where we are today business-wise hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth every step. There were plenty of challenges along the way—from understanding the nuances of running a franchise business to navigating the emotional toll of this kind of work. Also, working as a husband and wife team presents unique challenges. We often have to remind ourselves to turn off our business hats, and also focus on personal lives as well.

One of the most important lessons we’ve learned is that trust and compassion are everything in this business. This applies within our team culture and extends to how we approach clients and complete jobs. People reach out to us during their darkest moments, and how we treat them matters more than anything else. Being able to listen, understand, and truly help is what keeps us going. In terms of our work culture, we want employees to feel seen and heard. We take time to understand their needs and wants for living in Colorado, and we emphasize the importance of taking care of themselves so they can then take care of clients. The health and wellbeing of everyone involved is critical.

What we want the world to know about Bio-One of Colorado is that we’re here for more than just the cleanup. We’re here to provide support, understanding, and help during difficult times. Our business is built on trust, and our story is one of making a difference in the lives of people when they need it most.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
With ski season on the horizon, we are looking forward to several trips this winter. Our go-to ski spots are Breckenridge, Vail and Crested Butte. Here’s what we’re looking forward to in each location:

Breckenridge
We have a few friends that have timeshares at the Grand Colorado on Peak 8, so we’d likely rent a condo there for the weekend. Being able to ski in/ski out is key, and the accommodations with hot tubs, spa, and movie theater for the kids are perfect. If we head into town, we would recommend going to Fatty’s Pizzeria and then finishing with Stir-Pan Creamery for their shaved ice cream.

Vail
We accrue Hyatt points throughout the year, so staying at the Grand Hyatt in Vail is our go-to. They have their own private chair life to access the mountain, and there’s never a line. For lunch, we like stopping at Eagles Nest and enjoying the stunning views. After skiing, we enjoy the ice skating rinks and also getting dinner at the Red Lion. Their onion rings are the best!

Crested Butte
We plan a trip to Crested Butte with neighbors every year. The skiing is incredible, but it’s also great for just soaking in the scenery. After a day of skiing, we’d head into town for dinner at one of our favorite spots, Secret Stash. Their pizza is a must-try, and it’s got a fun, laid-back vibe that makes for a perfect ending to the weekend. If we’re in the mood for Mexican food, Bonez is a go-to choice and their margaritas are delicious.

No matter where we go during ski season, we’re looking for a little adventure on the slopes, good food, and great company, all while soaking up the best of Colorado’s winter scene.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
