Meet Jamie Barnard | Embroiderer, Graphic Artist and Digital Printer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Barnard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Initially, I didn’t. I actually fell into running commercial embroidery machines as just a regular college job. Over time I realized how much I actually enjoyed what I was doing and found meaning in creating in life what others have created graphically on a computer or in a sketchbook. I think growing up, I had always craved a certain creative outlet but I never found the medium that really felt right until I started embroidering. Over time, I was given the means to start learning other 2D to 3D arts like screen printing and UV printing and it still excites me today as much as it did when I first started learning, to see something that I’ve created bring a sort of joy to those we create for.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started embroidering in 2007 as a college student just working the night shift. Initially I was going to college for Archaeology and History and after getting into it realized that that specific passion was not going to make me happy professionally so I dropped out. I kept embroidering and over time found myself out in Washington state and then in Oregon state and eventually to Colorado, just trying to constantly learn and better myself in what I do. I had a lot of good leaders and teachers through the years who always pushed me to be better and to do better. I learned how to harness my skillset into paying attention to fine details that most people may not notice. Over time, I started learning the other aspects of our industry and started being given the leeway by some previous employers into harnessing my creativity into the new aspects I was learning.
I’ve faced a lot of challenges through the years in overcoming my fear of failure and putting my work out there for people to see, and overcoming my social anxiety to become the sales person that I have become.
As a creative person who didn’t find my creative outlet until adulthood, I like to prop other peoples creative abilities up and use our medium to promote and support small brands and individuals as well as large companies and corporations.
With our company name and branding, We really hope to prove to people that sometimes we shouldn’t take everything so seriously. There is absolutely a space in the professional world to show individuals for who they are and not as just faces and numbers. that even the outmost looking ordinary person can have a little ink inside to show the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting for the first time and I wanted to show them the best time ever, I would take them to either Kawa Coffee or to the Omelet Parlor for breakfast, we would then probably go see the Garden of the Gods or down to the Olympic museum to see the sights and learn some history. We definitely cant skip out on walking around Old Colorado City and going to all the little shops down there. As far as food goes, We definitely can’t skip out on Seeing Nicole and Fritz at Bunzy’s and Booze or eating at Leon Gessi, Cheba Hut or Rasta Pasta downtown. I’d love to take them to meet Brian at Disruptor Gallery in Shutter and Strum, or take them to see all the different art spaces at the Cottonwood. In the evenings, we would go hang out at Red Leg Brewing Company or over to Goat Patch Brewing Company for a beer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be able to do this without my wife, Robin. She eats, lives and breathes the same artistic life I do and I have never found a more supportive person. She is with me in the day to day of everything and I cannot be grateful enough for her love, support, encouragement and advice.
Furthermore, if I had had any other family growing up than the one I have, I wouldn’t be feeling the successes that I feel and find today, They molded me into the person that I am today, and I will be eternally be grateful for that. My parents especially have made this possible with their good advice and their business acumen, as well as their eternal support.
