We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan Guerrie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meghan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am in long term Recovery, and my path was different then most, not walking the traditional 12 step method. So when I hit about a year in my journey, I felt the urge to give back to the Recovery Community but wasn’t sure how I could, since sponsoring was not something I was able to do. About a year later Peer Recovery Coaching was introduced to me, and it felt like a missing piece to the puzzle of Recovery. I learned that a great Peer Coach is resource broker, a mirror of your own efforts, someone to be in your corner with no expectation or requirement of something in return, someone to inspire and hold you accountable, hold space for you and share celebrations, and help create an action plan when if there is failure, someone to help create the Recovery path that feels right for you.
I knew this was my opportunity to give back and get involved.
It was at that time that I created Sober Is…Peer Recovery Coaching.
So many people have asked me about the name, Sober Is.
Well early on in my journey of sobriety, I was sharing with someone (a normie) about some frustrations I was having. And with the best of intentions their response was “well at least you’re still sober.” That stuck with me, because although that was true, it did not mean that the other gambit of my emotions were irrelevant. After all two things can be true at the same time, I can be angry about something and still grateful for my sobriety. And so “Sober Is…” the concept was born. An open ended statement, giving anyone the opportunity to share what “Sober Is….” to them today. Good, bad, or anywhere in the middle.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The road to where I am at today has been a long one, with more hard lessons learned then I care to share about. My resounding, collective lesson from these people/circumstances is to trust my gut. If it feels off, it is. And when someone shows you who they truly are, believe them.
I am proud to share that I own several organizations in the Recovery and Behavioral Health world. Sober Is… of course is where it all started and now employs 15 coaches who are working in all areas of the recovery world daily. This collection of incredible humans is one of the things I am most proud of and honored that they have all chosen to be on this journey with me.
From treatment, to sober living, working with the unhoused population, Department of Corrections, and independently living; in 2024 we were honored to help over 700 individuals in the state of Colorado.
I am co-owner of Recovery Omega, a Behavioral Health Organization that brings together a wide variety of organizations in Colorado to offer services to the entire state. We have created a beautiful umbrella/collective of unique and varied services to offer to our Clients. All of these organizations work together to provide the highest, most ethical level of care we can.
My newest endeavor is Defy Sober Living, a sober living for Women and Children in Aurora, CO. With the intention to open a few more homes in 2025, including two for Fathers and Children. Our goal is to offer a space where Parents do not have to choose between their Recovery and their Children. Offering a safe space, with resources, recovery and support.
Through these organizations I hope to continue to offer help to the next struggling addict and alcoholic. And walk with them as they build a recovery path that feels right to them.
It definitely has not been easy, but it has absolutely been worth it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite place in Colorado is Manitou Springs, so we would for sure make the hour drive to check that out. It is a cute, quite town, with the best Arcade right in the center of town! It is the best place to spend the day for so many reasons.
A second stop would for sure be Downtown Golden, CO. The river walk, good shopping, food, and the scenery is spectacular.
We would for sure go eat at Los Dos, in Parker. Best Mexican food around. Or The Athenian in Aurora, if you like Greek food, you have to go!
And we would absolutely catch an Avalanche game, I never miss a single one! Go Avs!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a few people that I met early on in my recovery that are still by my side to this day. They have been around through every version of “me” over the last 7 years and I am so incredibly grateful for that. My husband, Seth, my best friend, Brie, my son, my business partner Heather, my family who has shown up in so many ways. I am not the person who entered treatment 7 years ago, there has been growth, failure, success and sadness. And these people have loved me through it all. That support is what brings me the confidence to keep pushing forward.
