We had the good fortune of connecting with Kat Perdue and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kat, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always been the kind of person that becomes bored if I am not using my imagination. I first started out as a floral designer and from there I became an interior decorator and now I am a full time artist. I can truly enjoy using my creativity to the fullest as an artist that works with mixed media and collage style acrylics on canvas. I enjoy using antique postcards, photos, letters, etc. whatever I can get my hands on that I feel will bring interest in to my paintings. I feel such fulfillment when I finish a painting especially when the person that selects a certain painting appreciates all the hard work that went in to creating it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Having an artistic brain always led me to careers that I had to lean on my imagination.. I have also had an entrepreneurial spirit so I have had my own businesses since I was about 21 years old. I pivoted from staging and interior design to full time artist when I had so many clients requesting custom artwork for their homes. With my knowledge of how important art is to a home’s design, I have embarked on creating fun and visually stimulating works of art. It is always challenging to go from one career to another but also very exciting. My goal is to create art that inspires a smile and opens up everyone’s imagination that takes the time to really look closely at all the different elements. Art should be fun and inspiring. It’s all about love of shape and color to tell a story and hopefully you have enjoyed mine.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am so lucky to live in such a beautiful state that definitely inspires my art. My favorite place to take friends and family is of course up to our amazing mountains. Grand Lake literally has all the activities you could possibly dream of from hiking, boating, snowmobiling to 4 wheeling. It’s so inviting as a small western town with a picture perfect Main Street full of cute shops and amazing restaurants with a view of one of the most beautiful lakes in the Country with amazing mountains all around. The town is full of creatives and just down right friendly people. One of my favorite places in the world !

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My story and love for art started clear back in middle school with a fantastic art teacher named Sam Short. She brought such joy and uniqueness into her teachings and her encouragement was life changing. She has sadly passed away but i hope all teachers recognize the wonderful impact they have on children and I thank them all for the job they do. Shoutout to teachers !
