We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi maya, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think risk is unavoidable, so I have decided to embrace it. Sometime in my imagination, risk appears as a door draped in ivy vine. I have the choice to open the door and cross from the know into the unknown. This always brings change, and is often the subject of my drawings.

Sometimes, I feel that embracing risk has lead me into the world of dreams. From here, I can write stories, find new parts of myself, and collect wisdom from hidden corners of the earth. I own my gratitude to taking risks, and when the door appears choosing to enter the unknown.

Recently, my risk has became to stay in one place, and to grow like a tree. Two years ago I moved to Tokyo and am building my life here. I drew a picture of a black door painted in cherry blossoms to represent this specific risk.

To me, the life of an artist is a rich and interesting experience.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I got here by following messages and images that I saw in my dreams. For example, one night I had a dream that I visited a fortune teller in Paris. This specific dream left a strong impression on my heart. It was guiding to me, and is often the subject of my drawings.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I really love the book Women Who Run with the Wolves and recommend it!
