We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris and Jen Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris and Jen, how do you think about risk?
Risk has played a huge role in both of our lives. We have chosen career paths where the largest risk was working for ourselves and not knowing where the next paycheck is coming from. The key to risk taking is taking small and incremental risk , so that when mistakes are made, recovery is possible. Managing risk by starting small and growing year over year is the best way to manage risk and the model that we follow.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Chris’s early career started at Disney , first in the mail room then promoted to the creative department. He then moved back to Colorado and did graphic design for US West where he met Donna Auguste. From there , Donna and her team started Freshwater Software, where Chris learned so much about design, sales and business. After selling Freshwater, Chris studied and learned Stock Trading and continues to trade today.

Jen’ early career was in Physical Therapy before moving to Pharmaceutical Sales. After getting married and having four kids, Jen followed her passion in pilates and opened Downtown Pilates and Fitness in Austin Texas.

in 2015 , Chris, Jen and their four kids moved back to Boulder CO and bought an old historic farm that they restored and immediately started planting lavender. Through all the hard work in our multiple professions, we had the dedication to work super hard to not only restore the property but come up with the vision of a lavender farm with a line of our own products from everything grown on the farm. In 2018, we purchased a 20 acre down the street and continue to clean it up and build it up to fit our plan and future vision to develop it into a local goods store, event space, and community hub for local artists , farmers, and growers. We care about our brand, Boulder Lavender and our second brand developed with our partners , Knotweed Farms , because we grow everything naturally with probiotics to create the healthiest plant sand products out there,

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Bet place to visit in Boulder ? Our farm of course!! who wouldn’t want to meet our horses, mini horses, alpaca and sheep and our 10 dogs!! or our farm store where we carry our lavender products and wool goods made from the fiber of our herd of alpaca? Some of our favorite spots in Boulder are Pearl Street Mall and having one of the best Margaritas at the Rio. Hiking Mt Sanitas or running at Chataqua Park , the Mesa Trail or Dowdy Draw up to Bear Peak, Or, riding our bikes up to Gold Hill or Ward. In the winter, you can’t beat the short trip up to Eldora for a day of skiing. For any season, the Dushanbe Tea House is the best treat for an afternoon tea or snack.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Chris would love to recognize two mentors in his life that taught him how hard work leads to success; those two people would be Ann Murphy , his boss at his first job at Disney and Donna Auguste, who had to vision for their software company, Freshwater Software. Jen would love to recognize her parents, who demonstrated through their love and hardwork, that sheer determination and work ethic will bring you success in whatever you do.
