Meet Ivy Lynn | Freelance Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivy Lynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ivy Lynn, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My path to a creative career wasn’t intentional at first…I thought I wanted to be a private investigator; you know like Magnum P.I. living in Hawaii, driving a Ferrari. In real life this career choice proved to be a lot less glamorous. I found out the hard way that dumpster diving for evidence and process serving would be enough to turn me off. Luckily, I also studied photography in college at ASU so I decided to follow my artistic side and become a professional photographer. It was very convenient after my daughters were born to have an in-home photo studio. My lens has taken me in many directions. I started as a portrait photographer, then worked in editorial photography for a newspaper which led me into music. I love to shoot album art and live performances. Burlesque shows are also fun to capture. I am inspired by the creativity and beauty that I have witnessed and been involved with here in Denver. I enjoy shooting events involving art, music and community. Often times I look at myself as a historian of sorts, preserving memories and making people smile.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My love for photography has been a constant in my life. It provides me an artistic outlet to express myself through the photos I create. The joy I get from making others happy with their images is very fulfilling.
Photography is my passion because it is an art form that allows me to capture the fleeting moments of life, freezing time and emotions. The best photography has an ability to reveal beauty in the ordinary, to tell stories without words, and to express perspectives that might otherwise go unnoticed. I am drawn to visionary art that provokes a reaction. Which leads me to one of my current collaborations with the incredible Shroomski Magazine. It has been a great honor to have some of my work published in this Colorado masterpiece.
Photography is a way to connect with the world, to understand it better, and to share my vision with others, all while preserving the essence of what makes each moment unique.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First Friday Sante Fe Art Walk with special attention to Threyda. Definitely have to go visit Barry at Lumonics. We would love to hang out in
eclectic spaces like Invisible City or Mockingbird. Denver has amazing immersive experiences like Meow Wolf and Denver Art Museum.
Can’t resist concerts at Red Rocks, Fillmore, Mission Ballroom or Cervantes then late night at Pete’s Kitchen.
Gypsy House Cafe for afternoon tea then across the street to The Odditorium an antique wonderland!
My favorite neighborhood Indian restaurant on S. Downing is Little India. The ambiance, flavors and service are on point.
Love to go on a hike to marvel at the views at Roxborough State Park or Garden of the Gods. And for the cherry on top a burlesque show at The Clocktower or an Arts Caravan Circus Variety show.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my daughters. The most rewarding responsibility of my life is Motherhood. Because of my career in photography, I have been able to create a beautiful archive of my daughter’s lives. I’ve had the honor to support and nurture them through their own journeys. Veronica 23, and I have worked together through several years of modeling and performance art. She has been on stage with many of her favorite DJs and worked with local fashion brands. Her newest path is in education. Her patience and demeanor inspires me. Veronica has a thirst for adventure and trying new things. Sedona 26, is a revolutionary change maker and community healer. I have been able to document the powerful events and projects she produces. It is a joy to capture the spirit of her passion through photography. Sedona is a Public Health Professional who empowers youth and connects them to opportunities and resources. She is extremely ambitious in her career all while balancing a 3-year-old little darling. I love my girls!
