Meet Taylor Petty | Wedding & Elopement Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Petty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Have you ever stumbled upon a shoebox, full of old photographs? It is like opening a time capsule. As a child, I would get so excited to go through all the photos that had been stored away. Seeing the world as my parents once saw it… Watching their story unfold over countless roadtrips, celebrations and milestones. So much history within those old photographs.
My journey into photography started 15 years ago, a young girl with a big dream. Upon graduating high school, I would constantly get asked “What is next?”… When I told people that I wanted to pursue a career in photography, the response I would get 90% of the time was “Can you even make a living doing that?”.
Well, I didn’t really know if I could… But I sure was going to try!
Looking back, I am forever grateful that I did not give up on that dream… Because I have now photographed over 250 weddings across the United States and internationally! A career as a wedding photographer has brought me such joy and fulfillment, knowing that I am documenting memories that families can cherish forever.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I believe sets me apart from other photographers in the industry, is my passion to truly understand the dynamic of the relationship I am photographing. Through my process, I dive deep into learning all about my couples. What are their love languages? What are their hobbies? What does their partner do that makes them feel most loved?
With this knowledge, I am able to create a safe space to authentically and uniquely showcase their love story.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that success in wedding photography isn’t just about taking great pictures – it is about building trust and connections. Couples rely on me to capture one of the most important days of their lives (no pressure, right?) and that responsibility has taught me the value of making sure each of my clients feel seen, heard and supported.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When a friend is visiting the city… I highly recommend we enjoy brunch, mimosas and views at The Viewhouse Ballpark in downtown Denver. Then head over to Boulder, to see the iconic Flat Irons and embark on a short hike to the Sunset Amphitheater for the most stunning views of the city! Also, it doesn’t matter who is playing at Red Rocks… just GO! The experience is unlike anything else!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
BIG shoutout to my partner, Hailey. They say when you date a photographer, you automatically become their assistant… Let me just confirm, that statement is true! From countless hours she has spent behind the steering wheel driving me across the country to lugging around 50 pounds of camera gear up the side of a mountain.
But most importantly, she has reminded me to stay true to who I am as an artist and constantly encourages me to try new things. Hailey has given me the support that I always needed, to make this dream come true.
