We had the good fortune of connecting with Tj Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi TJ, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Akron, OH, but moved to the Denver metro area when I was two years old. I spent most of my childhood living with my mother who worked multiple jobs to support my sister and me with little to no help or support. We would have definitely been considered lower class, often struggling to make ends meet. This environment taught me to be very resilient and resourceful and gave me the “one way or another we will figure it out” mentality. We never really had the “extras” that most of my friends and peers did but that just made me want to work even harder to never be in that position again. From a very young age I knew that if I was going to succeed and break the cycle of poverty it would be from hard work and determination.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Of course my life was never an overnight success so I tried many different occupations trying to find my calling. I worked my way up through an excavating company from being a laborer to superintendent. I started as a file clerk with an oil and gas company and worked my way up through the company to eventually become a financial analyst for them. I even owned a bar for a couple of years. I truly thought I found my calling in the radio industry where I built a very successful internet-based radio station and ultimately working with some really awesome terrestrial radio stars. That was my first taste of being an entertainer, and I was hooked. The time I spent in radio definitely prepared and shaped me to later become a very successful YouTube Bounty Hunter with a subscriber base of well over five hundred thousand with several videos with over two million views.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend in town who had never been to Colorado and I wanted to give them the full experience, I would try to pack in as many of the amazing things Colorado has to offer. We would have to visit Red Rocks Amphitheater, The Garden Of The Gods, snowboarding at Breckenridge if it were summer, or mountain biking if it were winter. We would have to make a trip to Estes Park to see the Stanley Hotel, a walk across the Royal Gorge Bridge and of course, watching the sunset over the Flatirons in Boulder. As far as food goes, I hope they bring pants that stretch because we would be in an almost constant food coma, breakfast as snooze or a breakfast burrito from Santiagos. Lunch at Stuben’s (gotta try the crispy brussle sprouts) and later appetizers on the rooftop at Linger. There are so many incredible spots for dinner but we’d have to hit the Chop House before taking in a Rockies game. Somewhere during the week we would need to hit La Loma and The Fort to round things out. I would make sure to take them to Mila’s Cantina for the best birria tacos and a late-night stop at The Original Chubby’s for chili cheese fries.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I know that without the constant encouragement and pep talks from my amazing wife Kristen I would still be struggling to figure things out. It would be a disservice to not also recognize my amazing daughters for giving me the motivation to show them that anything is possible if you are willing to do the work.
