Meet Rachel Degutz | American Ninja Warrior

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Degutz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursed competing on American Ninja Warrior because I believed I had a strong athletic potential I needed to realize. Once I reached college, I stopped competing in sports I participated in as a child like field hockey, gymnastics, and track. I felt I had more potential and I needed to it prove to myself. Knowing I was capable of achieving something greater, I found a ninja warrior gym and everything fell into place. I took this opportunity and set a goal worth working towards, to hit a buzzer on American Ninja Warrior.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of my pursuit of my dream, to hit a buzzer on American Ninja Warrior. I owed it to myself to see how far I could go and I am so grateful I followed through with it. The biggest lesson I learned, is that in order to pursue a dream, no matter how big or small, is to become really clear to what you want to achieve and consistently work at it.
Something else I learned, is the goal needs to be incredibly meaningful to you and worth making sacrifices for. If it doesn’t work out in the end, knowing that you gave it your all needs to be enough satisfaction to make the efforts worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Come to the mountains! It is so peaceful and beautiful out in nature. There is something for everyone. There are hot springs for relaxing, or snowboarding, skiing, or tubing for adrenaline seekers, and amazing pasture raised beef for the foodies.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout all of my training partners and ninja gyms along my journey. Thank you to everyone who helped me learn technical skills and set up obstacle courses with me. Thank you to all the gyms and gym owners at Vertiquest, Centercourt, and Nex Level for creating an environment where I could pursue my dream.
