We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikayla Halmos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mikayla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to work for myself and help others in any way that i could think of. Cosmetology has always been a passion of mine, and i was determined to make that happen! Once i became pregnant i knew that this was something that i needed to accomplish for not only myself but for my son as well. the ability to work for myself and create my own schedule has been amazing because i am able to be active and there for my son and all his medical needs. if i was working a regular 9-5 i would not have that freedom to do so.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a cosmetologist that offers both hair and lash services, i really do pride myself on my craft and giving nothing but the best to my clients. I like to talk through every step and also have a really in depth consultation with my clients before any and all services, because to me i feel like it is important to know everyone is on the same page for what the end results are going to be. Getting to where i am now has not been easy, there have been a lot of financial difficulties to overcome but also having the satisfaction that everything i have built i have put my blood, sweat and tears (literally) into my business. This has been a lot of hard work, not knowing what the next day or even week will look like, but i always look forward to it. it’s like a mini vacation when im at the salon, for myself and my clients. I want them to all feel like they are in a safe and comfortable space to just relax and talk about anything and everything they would like. My salon stuido is a completely judgement free zone!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly i am pretty much a homebody since having my son, but if i were to say let’s go out, i would have to go show them garden of the gods because the view and the trails are always a beautiful scene to look at. We would find a really cute place to grab some drinks and food in denver, but my all time favorite place right now is Kike’s Red Tacos in denver, they have the best birria ramen and queso tacos i have had since leaving el paso texas! so i think i would definitely have to my friend there!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my friends and family that have supported me in this entire process, from actually starting school, to helping me get through some pretty tough times where i wanted to just give up, they pushed me to make my goal of becoming a cosmetologist actually happen. I would also like to shoutout all my clients that have given me the opportunity to work on them, whether that was lashes or hair, i would not be where i am today without them! i love and appreciate everyone single one of them!
