Meet KayLee Parson | PWAT Colorado Springs East Owner & Artist
We had the good fortune of connecting with KayLee Parson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KayLee, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The success of our Painting With A Twist studios is in the hand of our talented and fun artists. Even though we have a big franchise name, we are owned and operated by local artists and very much a small business! We LOVE sharing our passion for painting with our community and making art accessible for all. Painting can be therapeutic, is a fun way to connect with friends, will open up a new creative side of you, and helps you escape from the real world. We know our job is important, but we also just really love being on stage and entertaining people. A day covered in paint is a good one!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My first ever job in high school was working at a little mom and pop art studio, teaching mosaic art classes and creating custom mosaics for clients. That led me to get my Art Education degree in Texas and then become a public school art teacher for many years. I found myself LOVING Painting With A Twist as a regular customer but was quickly pulled in to start instructing classes – at the same studio I now own 10 years later! My passion is art and people. I love how it brings communities together and how I can use art to reach others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you have a week to spend in Colorado Springs you need to make a drive to the top of Pikes Peak and take a little hike in Garden of the Gods. But after you hit all the tourist traps you gotta go where the locals go. My favorite places to eat are Pig Latin – a yummy food truck turned brick and mortor (order the margarita flight and a Pig Latin Plate) and Allusion – a speakeasy that changes it’s theme every couple months and always has a crazy snack and cocktail menu to go along with it. Of course you also have to visit my art studio to meet and work with local artists to make your own custom souvenir! Paint some Colorado themed art or home decor or make a candle so you can remember the trip. We have families come from all over the US to create art and memories together!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have so much gratitude for my studio staff. My artists feel like family. Working along side them is so much fun!
