Meet Debra Corness | Artist & instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Debra Corness and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Debra, why did you pursue a creative career?
I wanted to showcase my art and get to know the Colorado art community. I’ve always been a good artist but never put myself out there until I arrived in Colorado and felt the welcoming embrace of the local art community.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started experimenting with wood burning and carving as a joint medium to really add depth to my pieces. I use locally sourced wood and am inspired by our beautiful animals and landscapes in Colorado.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First I’d go to Red Rocks and see a concert and take them to New Terrain Brewery. I love hiking in the Colorado mountains and would take them to Steamboat to see the hot springs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband and 2 boys support me and regularly staff my booths at festivals. I couldn’t do this without their love and encouragement
