Meet Carraway

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carraway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carraway, why did you pursue a creative career?
Nick Amberg and Mara Byrd have been involved in several art and music since a young age including the jazz band that they met in. Creating a career out of art has never been the primary focus of their creative endeavors. However, the question of how to share their musical project Carraway with a larger audience has lead them to work to scale it in a sustainable way. Carraway has always been the people who interact with the art and that is we continue to do it, we love connecting with people through music and performance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Carraway is hard to describe in terms of genre, it is everything we like all the time. We had a struggle finding our voice but after recording our first full length album The Long Ride Home out everywhere May 23rd we’ve found a way to express ourselves and our style while providing a smooth and enjoyable listening experience. Neither of us are extroverted people by any means but we have learned to connect with people through music and are excited to continue to meet more wonderful people who come out to shows.
Honestly Carraway started alone in a tiny apartment, alone. Sitting against a bed and wanting something to believe in. That is what Carraway still is, something for us to believe and we hope that it provides others with something to enjoy and look forward to when they feel down.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being from FoCo we have a lot of favorites places up North including The Alley Cat Cafe, Gulley Green House, Big Als, and Wolverine Farm Publick House. When it comes to Denver there are some truly awesome tourist spots specifically the Denver Art Museum (Mara suggests the Western American Art Collection), the Botanic Gardens, and the 16th street mall but if you want the “real” Denver experience check out the small shops you’ll find around the city, hit up a small hole in the wall restaurant or be like us and end up eating Illegal Petes, go to local shows at some of our favorite venues including: Two Moons Music Hall, the HQ, and Hi-Dive. Then like a true Coloradan eat a 12 AM dinner about 30 minutes outside Denver, off of i25 there used to be at least 4 24/7 McDonalds but I think you’ll be stuck eating Taco Bell and gas station food now.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’d like to dedicate our shout out to our friends, families, and everyone who comes out to participate in our local music scene.
