Meet Deandre Simmons | Comedian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Deandre Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deandre, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Consistency and desire

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to think I’m very creative from my very small YouTube channel to the standup comedy I do on the side. I’m most proud of my consistency with the YouTube but also the shows I have been booked on stand up comedy wise. I wouldn’t say I’ve “made it” by any means but I have gotten to where I am today by continuing to show up week after week and put in the time and energy into these crafts. I’ve learned that not every day can you give 100% but what matters if that you try your best, whatever that may look like for you at that time. Because sometimes just showing up and putting yourself out there can be enough. Some days are harder than others obviously and it’s never easy, but when you’re doing something you enjoy and just want to bring joy to others in whatever way possible, that in itself is a great motivator. What I want people to know is that it’s important to try new things and put yourself out there. If you can make at least one person smile a day, shoot for two, and so fourth and so on.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I try to get out as often as I can but Rise Comedy in Denver is a great spot to hit an open mic and chat with friends. Throughout the week Comedy Works has plenty of shows to go to and experience. Daves Hot Chicken has some of the best hot chicken around and I’m sure there’s plenty of other spots I could mention but these are the ones that really stick out to me from my experiences. Any place where comics hang out or new characters are about is great to mix and mingle and find out about more people and their stories.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d credit my parents more than anything for being there for me every step of the way. I’m in a unique position where my parents are polyamorous and have found an amazing third. So my Mom, my step dad (who I just call my dad), and my step mom (who I also just call my mom) are the main reason I have the confidence to continue pursuing what I love while staying on top of other responsibilities at the same time.
