The one that has always stuck with me has been “The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with One Step” by Lao Tzu. It is a reminder of how progress is still progress no matter how small. Today, we as a world, have been spoiled with instant gratification. Everything we could ever want could be received with a press of a button and so when it comes to growing a business that takes time, it can be very discouraging for a new business. Progress moves so much slower than anyone new to this first expects so it’s important to know that taking a step in the right direction is still progress. Read More>>

When our family started this business, we noticed that most taco trucks offered the same familiar flavors. It was difficult to find Mexican food that truly reflected the flavors and traditions of our hometown, Mexico City. As we cooked for family, friends, and our local community, we realized that even many fellow Mexicans weren’t familiar with some of the unique dishes from Mexico City’s vibrant culinary scene. I would define success as living in such an authentic way that your contributions positively impact the world around you. It’s easy to associate successful financial endeavors, public accolades, or achievements with success, but I don’t think that’s accurate. Humanitarian efforts and efforts to improve the good of those you impact can’t be measured in dollars. Read More>>

Al- one of the most important shifts in my mentality was to broaden my scope of work. Working in a kitchen has always been about improving recipes, or work flow, but to be able to lift your eyes off of the day to day, and ask yourself the questions like: “where am I taking this business, what am I doing for my employees. Asking What are the steps I need to creat the kitchen I want, the business I want. A broad perspective will take away the limits of the mundane and the monotony, it gives an invitation to more opportunities and requires you to think about different perspectives and ways to improve. I am inspired by the geometry that is present across the universe. I find beauty in how various patterns show themselves in micro and macrocosms – like how the orbital pattern of Venus creates the same shape as a 5 petaled flower! It makes me question how our reality is constructed, and upon investigation has lead to an inner feeling of interconnectedness with life. Read More>>

Inspired by the dreamers, the lovers of nature, the wild child with wind in her hair and adventure in her eyes, the valiant tree huggers, beach goers and day trippers, sophisticated city slickers and gallant world travelers, sun worshipers and night chasers who might need a little natural beauty from this wondrous land that we all call home. Conventional wisdom often dictates chasing the hottest, highest-paying jobs. This discourages pursuing our inherent interests, relegating them to “hobbies.” Having spent 20 years as a musician in IT, I’ve seen firsthand that this approach, while seemingly logical, clashes with our unique individual wiring. One piece of advice I don’t really agree with is charging an entry fee for events. A lot of markets do it to cover costs or add a sense of exclusivity, but I think accessibility is important. Keeping the Colorado Makers Market free to attend means everyone in the community can show up, no matter their budget. Another thing I’ve found is that while promoting the market is important, word of mouth has been the real game-changer. Each year, more vendors apply because they’ve heard good things from past events. At the end of the day, it’s all about building a sense of community and connecting with other vendors and market-goers matters more to me, that’s what makes the market special! Read More>>
