We had the good fortune of connecting with Samuel Iannetta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samuel Iannetta, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Common Sense is not so common. Many people use the statement common sense but what they don’t realize is common sense is only common to people sharing a specific background. Making fitness make sense to a new client without any fitness background is what we do best. When you can turn fitness concepts into common sense then you have a client that can make decisions about their workout on the fly without supervision. They stop being injured in the gym and at home.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Two things I look for in coworkers is a desire to learn and a drive for problem solving. Many people can spout data but have a hard time putting it into practice in problem solving. It is great to understand the muscles of the body but knowing how they work together to create a motion (or problem) is a whole different level of understanding.

I was a born business owner starting at about 8 years old with yard work. At 10 years old starting selling sporting goods. At 18 years old heading off to Seton Hall University and Business Degree bound. Literally talking my way into acceptance into Business School. Years later changing course and becoming a personal trainer (starting my own business and then Opening Functional Fitness in Boulder in 2002. 22 years later I am doing this interview, one of many.

The lessons are too long to list but understanding that in a personal business it gets personal. Knowing and teaching exercises is not personal training. Learning and understanding what that person wants along with a good amount of what they need is what getting personal is all about.

What do I want the world to know. Anything can be overcome. Attitude and perseverance is king.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That is a really tough one to answer for me since every hour my life changes. I am a seat of my pants type of human that shucks and jives and rolls with the punches so in general this is an outdoorsy part of the world. Boulder Colorado is absolutely beautiful so we would definitely check out the mountains, streams, waterfalls. There are great vistas and an amazing antique carousel in Nederland, the sand dunes, the list goes on an on.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to have a shout out to all of the clients that brought me difficult physical problems to solve. They are my mentors and they cause me to have to stay on a quest for never ending knowledge and problem solving.
