We had the good fortune of connecting with Nechama Siderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nechama, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I remember my grandfather telling me that his favorite part of his job was going home. (He was a lawyer.)
I knew from the time I was very young that I have to love what I’m doing and do it with passion. Now that it’s real life, I see how true this is. You will completely burn out if you don’t love what you do and feel passionate about it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I can’t pretend like my story is a finished one with a happily ever after. It is always evolving and I’m always brain storming on how to make things better, and I go through ups and downs. Not to mention overcoming impostor syndrome!
But with that being said :

I was on my way to becoming a nurse, when a couple of challenges blocked my way from continuing that semester, and everything was going to have to be pushed off even longer. It made me do a double take, and really rethink what I wanted out of life and what kind of lifestyle I wanted to live. I always knew that I wanted to get married and have a family focused life, so that was really a driving force for me because when I switched my career path, I knew that this new path would lead me to something that could fit well into my life’s true ideals aside from business.

In 2014-25 I went to esthetician School in Baltimore (where I was living at the time,) and then took further training in makeup artistry. The thing is though, that with any art, it’s not as much about your schooling or training, it’s about actually getting in there and doing it. It took many years for me to feel confident, and I still sometimes lack confidence, but with the encouragement of all those who love me, I always take on the challenge and have never let down. I now have people come to my small basement studio where I do waxings, give makeup lessons and consultations, sell makeup and do makeup for photoshoots and events. I travel to people’s events as well. It’s fun to be part of people’s lives at these special times, and I really enjoy connecting with people and helping ground them on a special day.

My business is called Inner Shine. I literally love the name, because it truly depicts what it’s all about, and how I feel about makeup and beauty in general: feeling good in your skin and enhancing your physical beauty is really just a way to access what’s most important, which is what’s inside– your soul, your inner self, and what you uniquely bring to the world.

Recently I started dabbling in face paint, and decided to open a branch of my business called Squiggles and Giggles. It’s so fun to connect with kids and make them feel awesome!

I still feel like there’s a lot more out there for me to tackle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to all of our LITERALLY AWESOME nature places around Colorado. Garden of the gods and Red Rocks are of course two of my favorites, as well as any lake or trail – you can’t beat the Colorado sky!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my sister Devo, who was the first one to whom I ever voiced my dream of being in the beauty industry. I was so scared of what people would say that I kept it inside for a long time. Thank you for being the one I felt safe telling and for encouraging me to go for it!

I also think my husband, Joel, for supporting me all the way and making everything I do possible.
