Meet Brandon Bull | Volunteer with Big Bones Canine Rescue

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Bull and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
This year, Big Bones Canine Rescue has set a clear end goal: to stop having to rescue dogs. While most businesses strive for growth, in the world of rescue, growth means more dogs are on the streets, more surrenders, etc.. At Big Bones Canine Rescue, our main objective is not growth, but rather to create a world where every dog has a loving home.
By the end of this year, we aim to have rescued more dogs than in previous years, with a focus on medical cases that are often overlooked.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Big Bones Canine Rescue is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. We are most proud about the work we do and how it has an impact on each and every one of our dogs. Kristie Fisher, the founder of Big Bones Canine Rescue, had a dog boarding facility. In the early 2000’s Kristie took her first “rescue” dog under her wing. Over time, friends would comment about Kristie’s heart and encouraged her to turn her boarding facility into a formal rescue operation. With the support of her family, her dream came to fruition and Big Bones Canine Rescue was formed. Rescue is not easy, we see the worst in people, we see dogs who are injured, dogs who have been wronged by people and their soul is broken, you name it we’ve see it. But we are able to overlook the worst because we get to help these dogs find their forever home. When you see a dog that was abused, but is now thriving in a loving home, it pushes you more and more each day to do right by these dogs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came for a visit, I would be sure to hit the spots that will make the time unforgettable! After a long flight, the first spot we would go to is Hops & Pie for delicious pizza and a refreshing craft beer! I would also have to take him to a Rockies game. After the game, we would go get Gyros at the Gyros Town food truck – the perfect post game snack! In the next few days, we would explore the Stanley Marketplace, grabbing a coffee from Logan House Coffee and eat at Rolling Smoke BBQ. We’ll wander through the marketplace, trying out different foods and soaking in the unique atmosphere. And last but not least, I would take him to go see a concert at the iconic Red Rocks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our volunteers and supporters deserve a huge shout out. Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization, from those who are at our facility day in and day out taking care of the dogs, to our fosters who provide loving homes for them, to the volunteers who vet dogs to get them ready for adoption, and those who work diligently behind the scenes and many more. Additionally, our supporters play a crucial role in our mission. Whether you donate to help cover the costs of care, adopt a dog from us and provide them with a forever home, or simply share a post to help spread the word about our rescue, your support is invaluable. The rescue community is a network of compassionate individuals who share a common passion for saving dogs, and it is because of you that we are able to make a difference in the lives of these animals.
