Meet Jessica Dory | Photographer/Photography Studio

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Dory and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Viewing the world through an artistic lens is something I have done since I was a child and I have always enjoyed being creative and creating visual imagery. In college I earned a Bachelor of Fine Art and that process of not only creating and showing work but also going through peer review and critiques was foundational to honing my visual aesthetic.
When I work with families I have to be in the moment and connecting with them as well as drawing on my technical skills and my artistic eye. I always do my best to bring all my experience and expertise into the current moment with my clients while also allowing the moments to unfold in a natural way that is specific to each family. I also enjoy the post production work of culling and editing images. The goal is always to create images where the moment, emotion and technical skill really aligns into a perfect visual image. It’s incredibly satisfying work!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am primarily a lifestyle photographer who works with families – I offer maternity, birth, newborn, milestone and family sessions. I also have my own photography studio, Little Rabbit Photography Studio, where I offer mini sessions, maternity and milestones including first birthday and cake smash sessions. The studio has given me a lot of creative freedom and I am continually changing it up to offer fun, artistic sessions that range from minimalist to artfully staged to playful. In-home newborn sessions are one of my favorite sessions that I offer and I also love working with small business owners and brands!
One of my main priorities has always been to focus on creating professional and consistent work that is creative, artistic and emotive. I’m a little bit of a perfectionist and this can be challenging at times, but I am always pushing myself to do my best work and to grow as an artist. Details are something I place a lot of value on and I do my best to make the process of working with me easy and stress free by utilizing scheduling & payment systems and communicating efficiently.
I have been in business since 2019 and it definitely wasn’t always easy – COVID hit right as I was done building my portfolio and that was challenging. I didn’t have instant success but my business has grown every year and this is a great feeling. I love working with families who return to me year after year and that is one of the highlights of staying in business for so long. I just photographed my third baby for the same family and that felt like a real milestone!
I would describe my brand as authentic, playful and creative. I love to document real moments in an artistic way. To create stand alone works of art as well as storytelling moments to have for a lifetime. These kids grow up fast! Documenting moments and memories for the future is a huge honor that I don’t take lightly.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I grew up in Colorado and I love that I can take my own kids to places I loved as a child (my little ones are 7 & 9.)
I always like any of our big city parks like Washington Park or City Park, so I might start the day at Wash Park with a walk and time at the amazing playground with the ladybug and bee. I love South Broadway for food and shopping or Pearl Street so maybe lunch at one of the restaurants afterwards there or at the Denver Beer Co. on South Downing which has great food and is family friendly. Then maybe go catch a show at Levitt Pavillion. Bring in a picnic and blanket and let the kids run up and roll down the big hill!
Other favorites include Belleview Park – there is a creek, train you can ride and a petting zoo. It’s the perfect place to meet friends in the summer and take a picnic.
The new playground at City Park outside the museum is so cool and a new favorite place as well.
We also love our local chain GB’s Fish & Chips – it’s an easy place to eat and kids eats free on Sunday!
Denver Art Museum and Colorado History museum are favorites as well with lots of activities for kids.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m going to give this Shoutout to my mom. She is also incredibly creative and although she worked as a pharmacist she is also an accomplished fiber artist who has an amazing sense of color and pattern. She always encouraged my creativity and artistic endeavors. I feel like she has always supported my dream of being an artist and for this I am so thankful!
