We had the good fortune of connecting with Vince Lucich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vince, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Just show up! Every instance of my success that I can think of, whether as an engineer, entrepreneur, or venture capitalist, I can attribute to a specific moment. It’s like they say: “luck is a product of circumstance and preparation” or something like that. You can prepare all you want but at the end of the day you just need to be at the right place, at the right time. So put yourself out there! Try something new! Have an open mind that’s ready to learn!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
These days I’m involved in several different things. Whether it’s building satellites to launch into space at the Colorado School of Mines, running my business focused on producing sustainably-made travel equipment, or working as a partner at 14 Founders Venture Capital listening to startup pitches. There’s a lot I could say about the journey I took to get here and it’s certainly been a rocky road. But when it comes to facing those challenges, all I can say is trust in yourself and surround yourself with people who support you. It’s weird for me to write this out but I consider myself an introverted and occasionally awkward person haha. But placing myself around the right people and accepting the imperfections has helped a lot.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ohhh there’s some good stuff in Denver, and Golden as well. Definitely the Denver Aquarium, Union Station, the Botanical Gardens are great. I’m also a big ramen fan, Colorado in general has a pretty good ramen scene. Nosu Ramen in Golden is my all time favorite. I would also have to take them hiking, South Table Mountain in Golden is a good, quick hike. A day trip to Aspen would make for a good day hike. Honestly, driving down I-70 in general is pretty fun!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! The Evolve Entrepreneurship Club at the Colorado School of Mines. While I am tooting my own horn here a bit, as I am the sitting President of the club, it wasn’t always this way. Back when I was an introverted freshman in college, the club and its former leaders helped give me the confidence and community I needed to break out of my shell. It’s really given me so much, I can’t express my gratitude. Now I hope to do the same, helping to inspire the next class of innovators and spreading the message that anyone can be an entrepreneur! You don’t need to wear turtlenecks and have crazy charisma, really anyone can do it!
