Meet Mike McCullough | Retired music teacher and active musician/singer.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike McCullough and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I think the single most important part of child raising is for the parents to deeply love and support each other. My sons know I love their mother and I love them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was able to make a living playing music with my wife until we had children. In faith I quit playing music and found myself teaching in a tiny Eastern Colorado school. I never in my life considered teaching as an option. I found that I loved teaching and was blessed to work at the same small school for 35 years. My fellow teachers were some of the most wonderful people you could ever meet. They are all close friends to this day. The pay wasn’t good but all the things that money can’t buy are mine. We lived within our means and made ends meet most of the time. We were blessed to be given some used cars over the years and therefore never had to go into debt for very long. I learned that money can’t buy what you really need and many times what I really needed was there all the time. I am blessed. Now I am able to get out and play and sing at church and with my dear friends. I’m doing ok.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Vona Colorado. There’s nothing to do here! I would take them to my home. We have great parties all the time. Lorraine is the queen of parties. We could go to a very good restaurant in Burlington, but it’s not any better than Lorraine’s cooking. Our get-togethers are usually conversational with much laughter. Other than live music and shows etc. Most folks already know what to see and do in a large city. At night you can see all the stars from Vona. Family and friends and laughter. It’s not that expensive.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, Lorraine. My church, my sons and grandchildren. My After Midnight band brothers, and many friends.
