Meet Amber Mast | RN & Licensed Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Mast and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After 12 years as a bedside nurse, I reached a level of burnout that pushed me to reevaluate how I wanted to care for others—and myself. I transitioned into medical aesthetics and spent three years working for other providers, where I fell in love with the combination of science, artistry, and truly personalized care.
During that time, I realized I wanted to create something of my own: a nurturing, beautiful space where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported—not just during a single appointment, but over time. I wanted to build lasting relationships with my clients, rooted in trust, education, and continuity of care, rather than quick, transactional visits. As a mom, having the flexibility to create my own schedule was also incredibly important.
Starting my own practice allowed me to operate on my own terms—prioritizing ethical care, meaningful relationships, and realistic pricing. My goal was to create a space where people can work toward their skin goals in a way that feels approachable, empowering, and never intimidating—both in experience and in cost.

What should our readers know about your business?
I felt a strong intuitive pull to start my business, even without a traditional business background, because I saw how deeply this work impacts people. Helping clients feel more confident and witnessing the trust they place in me as they see real results has been incredibly meaningful. What I’m most proud of is my ability to build genuine connections—I truly cherish the relationships I’ve formed with my clients, many of whom I’ve had the privilege of caring for over time.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. I built this practice largely through word of mouth, community support, and the encouragement of others who believed in me along the way. I’ve learned to take things day by day, seek guidance from mentors when needed, and trust that every step—especially the challenging ones—has played a role in getting me here. On hard days, I remind myself that difficulty is part of growth, take a breath, and keep going.
What sets my business apart is that it’s intentionally not a high-volume, in-and-out med spa. I prioritize time, education, and personalized care at every appointment. I bring patience, humor, and a listening ear into the treatment room, and I do my best to offer thoughtful pricing and flexibility so clients can access quality care without feeling overwhelmed or excluded.
Along the way, I’ve learned that the right clients will find you when your work is rooted in authenticity. At the heart of my business is a purpose to nurture others, restore confidence, and remind people that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated—but it is essential for both our physical and mental well-being.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Castle Rock has such a special small-town feel, even as it continues to grow. Downtown is charming and walkable, filled with thoughtfully curated, locally owned businesses that invite you to slow down and be present — something I really value.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d plan a mix of self-care, creativity, and time outdoors. We’d start with a relaxed afternoon on the lawn at Festival Park, then wander to explore shops like The Barn and The Emporium. I’d make time for a cozy book-and-cocktail date or meal at Ecclesia Market or Sinners & Saints, and of course a stop at Goldie Links for a fun, creative keepsake.
For grounding wellness, I’d book a session at The Rock Salt Spa, schedule a massage with Michelle at Therapeutic Touch Massage, and squeeze in a creative reset at Arts on Fire — there’s something incredibly calming about slowing down and making something with your hands.
Nature would be non-negotiable. We’d hike Castlewood Canyon State Park, explore one of the many open spaces that Castle Rock has to offer, and spend a day paddleboarding or camping at Chatfield State Park. Castle Rock truly offers the best of both worlds — a supportive, creative community paired with easy access to nature and space to reset and recharge.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to dedicate this shoutout to the patients and clients who trusted me early on and continue to support my work. Building Arcana Med Spa has been shaped just as much by the people who sit in my chair as it has by my own effort—every conversation, every bit of feedback, and every shared goal has helped me grow both personally and professionally.
I’m also incredibly grateful to my family for their patience, encouragement, and belief in me during the many long days of building something from the ground up. And finally, I want to recognize the mentors and fellow providers I’ve learned from along the way—those who shared knowledge, guidance, and reassurance when I needed it most. None of this happens in isolation, and I’m deeply thankful for the community that continues to support and inspire me.
