Meet Dylan Unger | Trial Attorney, Competitive Racer & Founder of Venyx Injury Law

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylan Unger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dylan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Starting Venyx Injury Law was a massive calculated risk, but one driven by a clear mission: to prove that a personal injury firm can be elite and aggressive while being fundamentally fairer to the client. I spent nearly a decade at one of Colorado’s largest firms, filing hundreds of lawsuits and recovering over $75m for my clients, but I eventually realized that the traditional model often prioritized the ego of the firm and the prestige of the attorneys over the needs of the clients. I decided to take the leap and build a modern personal injury law firm from the ground up, one that uses high-level technology to stay lean and efficient so I can charge a lower fee and pass that efficiency dividend to my clients.
My perspective on risk isn’t just theoretical. In 2021, my daughter was born at 26 weeks and spent 103 days in the NICU. Sitting by that incubator for three and a half months strips away the noise; it teaches you what it’s like to be the one in crisis, feeling vulnerable and looking for someone you can actually trust. A few years later, in 2024, a high-speed motorcycle racing crash resulted in a helicopter flight and surgery. That experience gave me a visceral understanding of the physical trauma and recovery process my clients face every day.
These moments taught me that when a family is hit by a life-altering accident, they don’t need a lawyer’s ego; they need a partner who has been in the hospital bed, knows the stakes, and has the integrity to put the client’s bottom line first. I’m not afraid to take the risk of filing a lawsuit where others would play it safe, because I know that my clients’ futures are worth the fight.
Building Venyx was my way of taking the lead to find a better line. I watched as technology evolved and made the practice of law more efficient and allowed firms to save money. But I saw that the firms who slowly embraced these tools pocketed the saved profits instead of passing the savings on to their injured clients. The technology has evolved, but the personal injury fee structure hasn’t. I saw this and thought I could do better. So I launched Venyx Injury Law with a standard fee of 29% instead of the usual 33-35%, and a lawsuit fee of 33% instead of the usual 40-45%. These lower percentages can mean thousands more from a recovery stay with the injured person. I know that it’s a risk to scale a firm on a lower fee, and I knew that I risked being the pariah of the local personal injury community for disrupting the status quo. But when I see a client keep thousands of dollars more of their recovery because of our efficiency, I know it’s a risk worth taking.

What should our readers know about your business?
Venyx Injury Law is a high-tech boutique personal injury law firm built to solve the growing disconnect between the personal injury field and advancing technologies. The industry is dominated by massive firms with huge overhead and even bigger egos, and has been slow to embrace evolving technologies that make the work more efficient and expeditious. This leads to costs that are ultimately passed down to the client through high fees, hidden costs, and less individual attention.
What sets Venyx apart is our embrace, and development of, modern technology to increase efficiency. My brother is in the tech sector, and by collaborating with him, I’ve built a firm that uses advanced technology to eliminate the administrative bloat found in traditional firms. This efficiency allows us to do something disruptive: we charge a 29% fee (33% if a lawsuit is filed), compared to the industry standard 33-35% initial fee that goes up to 40-45% fee if a lawsuit is filed, while providing elite, aggressive representation. I spent nearly a decade at one of Colorado’s largest firms, recovering over $75M for my clients and filing hundreds of lawsuits. I’ve brought that high-stakes trial experience into a lean, modern machine where the client keeps more of their recovery.
Getting here was an evolution of hard work and learning. I spent 9+ years grinding in the big-firm trenches. I was lucky to have two amazing mentors, two of Colorado’s best civil trial attorneys, who taught me how to take cases to trial and to treat clients with respect. But I also saw the darker sides of ego and greed. In recent years, I saw that many firms were at best slow to embrace evolving technology, and at worst refused to put these tools to use. The firms that have begun to use technology to increase efficiency have just pocketed the savings instead of passing the savings back to clients. On top of that, they are often charging clients for the very tools that are saving them money on top of their fees.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that efficiency isn’t just about saving money, it’s about integrity. I’m proud of the fact that I’ve engineered a way to be a high-performance trial lawyer, while also getting clients more from their recovery than the traditional personal injury structure.
I want the world to know that Venyx Injury Law isn’t just a new law firm; it’s a new standard. We are proving that you can have elite, aggressive representation without the Big Firm ego or the outdated fee structure. We’re not just winning cases; we’re giving the efficiency profit back to the people who actually earned it: the clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To really experience Denver, you have to balance the high-energy city vibe with the calm of the mountains. We’d start in my own neighborhood, the Whittier/Five Points area. We’d grab coffee and head to City Park for a run around the lake. Then, I’d take them to the “secret” balcony on the fourth floor of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. It has arguably the best view in the state, looking right over the park at the city and the Front Range.
For food, we’d stay in the neighborhood and hit the local spots where the quality is actually elite: Point Easy for an incredible meal, Brasserie Brixton for the vibe, or Rougarou for some authentic Cajun.
We’d definitely spend a day at Red Rocks, for a concert or just running the stairs in the morning. The rest of the week would be spent heading further into the mountains for some cycling or mountain biking. To me, the perfect Colorado week is one that moves fast in the city and finds its rhythm in the high country. And if they motorcycle we’d have to squeeze in a track day at High Plains Raceway.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Venyx Injury Law is a solo practice, but it was built by a village of support. I have to start with my parents. Growing up in Boulder, they were the ones who fueled my competitive drive from day one, whether it was racing BMX, mountain bikes, or eventually motorcycles. They taught me the discipline it takes to compete at a high level and the integrity it takes to do things the right way. I wouldn’t have the grit to be a trial lawyer without the foundation they built.
My wife is the true anchor of this story. She was my teammate through the most grueling 103 days of our lives in the NICU with our daughter, and again through my recovery after a major racing crash in 2024. Her resilience is the heartbeat of this firm; she reminds me every day that the work we do for families in crisis is about people, not just files.
I also owe a massive shoutout to my brother. His career in the tech world was the catalyst for the Venyx Advantage. Our conversations about automation and efficiency are what allowed me to bridge the gap between traditional law and a modern, 29% fee model.
Finally, my daughter. She is my ultimate inspiration. Seeing the strength she showed from the very beginning of her life pushes me to always strive to do right and to succeed for her. She is the reason I’m so committed to building a firm based on integrity; I want to show her that it’s possible to disrupt a massive industry simply by putting people first and doing the right thing.
