We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Kershenbaum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There wasn’t any crazy process behind starting my business. I’ve been practicing esthetics and laser for several years and have always enjoyed helping people look and feel their best. I was working at a medical spa in downtown Denver, I also began to manage the spa while still providing all treatments. I was keeping long hours and felt somewhat unappreciated for my work ethic, then Covid happened. The week before the stay at home order was put in place, The owner of the spa seemed to be in denial about the global pandemic which caused a lot of tension and because of this I just couldn’t see myself returning there after the industry was allowed to reopen. During this stay at home period, many of my clients were continually reaching out to me and really wanted to come see me for their treatments. It was at this time I decided to look into starting my own business. I reached out to some key business people I know personally for support and guidance to start making plans and things eventually fell into place in a real positive way. Now I’m doing what I love again and am so excited for what the future may hold!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m definitely proud of myself for making this happen especially during a pandemic. It hasn’t been easy, owning a business is a challenge and I’ve learned so many things that will help me in my future endeavors. I’ve always been passionate about learning everything I can about my industry, what and how I could make others feel their best about how they look. My biggest challenge has been learning how to run and operate a business, then streamlining it for greater efficiency and efficacy and of course…profits. I realized early on that so many startup businesses know their industry well, but simply don’t know how to run a business…. (administration, all types of marketing and social media, brand building, name recognition, inventory control, etc…).. I’ve learned that running a startup business beginning with nothing is not an easy thing to do to be successful, where so many businesses fail their first year….I was determined to not make that happen. I reached out to business professionals and did a lot of my own research on startups, how to structure a business from developing a full blown business plan to implementing my plan and not wavering from it other than to improve on areas. My passion for helping people feel good about themselves and the way they look is second to none. My job is fun and I get to meet really cool people. I have relationships with my clients, we talk about our lives and all sorts of things. I pride myself and my business on being an outstanding medical spa and accepting everyone no matter what. I perform skincare & laser treatments with consistency. I really listen to my clients and their concerns, I take the time to be extremely thorough from the consultation all the way through their treatments. I welcome everyone to show up exactly how they are with no judgement on my end. People come to me because they have a concern or problem they want fixed and that’s exactly what I do. To see the satisfaction and confidence my clients feel about themselves is such a warm and satisfactory feeling. I feel my successes and my business growth have increased my confidence and my reputation as a professional in my field. My goal is for current and all future clients to think “Foxy Laser” first when they are looking for my services.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Skiing in Vail! The mountains here are magical. Would have to check out a hot springs as well. My favorites are Strawberry Hot Springs in Steamboat and Iron Mountain in Glenwood Springs. Places to eat – El Five is an awesome restaurant serving Spanish and Mediterranean food on the top floor of a penthouse so the views are everything! My favorite is their Paella. Another favorite is the Ramen at Uncle. Would definitely go to a concert or two, there are a lot of venues here one of my favorites is Mission Ballroom. Lastly, would hit up a Nuggets game. I love basketball!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My clients! I don’t know if I would’ve gone off on my own if it wasn’t for my clients. My coaching program has been very helpful and my family has been extremely supportive.
