We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Spencer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is “wherever you go there you are.” This quote keeps me grounded and helps me channel my inner self to know that staying in the moment is always important. Having your own business has its up and downs and when I am overwhelmed in any way I try to remember that this is where I’m supposed to be and just take it all in.

Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
So I am currently a full-time nanny as well as a business owner. When I was nannying for one of my old families I was taking care of a three month old and noticed that when I would do bottle feedings I was always stuffing pillows on my side and back for support. I decided I would look to buy something but couldn’t find anything in the market that could provide me the comfort I needed, so I made my own pillow. After deep research and feedback from fellow nannies and reaching out to mothers about how they felt about my design, I saw a need for it. So after two years of perfecting the design and getting my product patented. I now have a pillow for moms and caregivers that gives the ultimate support when it comes to breastfeeding, bottle feeding and for better comfort while pregnant. What sets my product apart from other pillows is that they don’t provide the arm and back support mine does. My product also is unique in design from all other breastfeeding/bottle feeding pillows. I am most proud of the work I’ve put into my business to get it off the ground and have it accessible to purchase today. I got where I am today from determination and drive. It was very hard to get where I am but the process has been very enjoyable for me as well.

When I was faced with a challenge I just took a deep breath and thought about what I wanted my end goal to be and just visualizing my future business thriving was enough to keep me going strong. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is to be patient. Patience is key when starting a company. You will sometimes find yourself overwhelmed by mistakes you’ve made or just overwhelmed that things aren’t going how you’ve planned them to go. You have to remember to just breath and be patient and everything will fall into place. Sometimes we are our worst critics. I want the world to know that Mama Llama is a brand that wants to make being a mom or dad easier. Coming from my nanny background I know that parents need help and the more help you have in that circle the more successful and balanced you are as a parent. I also want people to know that I am trying to break a mold for other young women to strive for what you want out of life and that with hard work and dedication you can accomplish you biggest dreams.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was here for a week we would start all our days at a cool coffee shop around the city. One being Hudson Hill. After coffee we would work our way to a brunch spot Sunday Vinyl being my mew favorite. Once we leave brunch go walk some of the food off at Wash Park or even head to Red Rocks. Next we would need to get some drinks at improper city and hangout on the lawn playing some games. After hanging out in the sun for awhile we would head home and get ready for the night. We would have fancy cocktails at a speak easy called Miller’s and Rossi. Once we finish dinner we would end the night by getting a really good burger from Goodtimes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout my best friend and partner Bryan Edmundson. He’s my biggest support system and whatever I need he is always there to help no matter what. He knows how to keep me encouraged and never falls short in encouraging me in all my endeavors.
