We had the good fortune of connecting with Theresa Huffman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Theresa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I grew up surrounded by entrepreneurial and creative people. My parents were farmers (the ultimate entrepreneurs!). My grandmother was a self-taught artist, and many of my family members inherited her artistic abilities. I was always drawing, painting, and crafting as a child. When I was 10 years old I won a poster drawing contest and my prize was a set of oil paints. Some of my fondest memories growing up are of painting alongside my grandma. Several years ago when my boys were pre-schoolers I painted a mural in our home and when a friend saw it she asked me to paint murals in her kids’ bedrooms. Then another friend asked, and another, and another…… and before I knew it I had a mural painting side-gig. When my boys entered elementary school I got a “real” job and painting took a back seat. However, I always dreamed of owning my own creative business. Fast forward to a year ago, I was laid off from a contract sales position and all that I could think about was going back to doing what I am passionate about, which is painting and creating. The thought of another boring office job made my stomach hurt so I took the plunge and launched “Murals & More by Theresa”.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that everyone should live and work in a place that inspires them and that reflects their unique personalities and interests. I love it when a client comes to me with an idea, and I can work with their concept to create something that we can both be proud of. I get really excited to see the joy on my clients face when they see the room or the wall that was painted especially for them. Aside from one drawing class as a college freshman I am self-taught. Most of what I have learned has been trial and error, and I’m determined to keep working on a piece until it is right. It’s important for me to be humble and to be willing to ask for help and advice. I care deeply about creating something that my client can’t wait to show off to their friends.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve only been in Colorado for 5 years, so in a lot of ways I still feel like a tourist exploring the city and our beautiful state. We would definitely have to drive up to the mountains and do some hiking or skiing, depending on the time of year. Garden of the Gods, Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, and a drive up Mount Evans are our go-to locations when we have out of town guests. Closer to home we love Roxborough State Park and Castlewood Canyon State Park. We love to take friends and family to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and to attend shows at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. We would definitely have to grab an amazing burger and truffle fries at Park Burger.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has always been my greatest cheerleaders. My husband has been very patient and supportive as I’ve launched a new business during a pandemic.
