We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Roberson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anna, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?

Other female business owners of color! When I see women, who are taking over genres that weren’t meant for us, excelling in businesses that we’re never created for us, creating avenues for future women that look like us, is completely inspiring to me. When we support each other, then we are all winning! We all must work twice as hard to get to where we are and I love a woman who is about her spiritual life, family, business, and wellbeing!! I’m Inspired by women like that and it keeps me motivated and moving forward!

Additionally, seeing other events, projects , weddings, and designs from other well established event planners is very inspiring. When I feel like giving up I see their work and it pumps me back up again to keep going!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As far back as I can remember, celebrations such as parties and weddings have held a special place in my heart. Whether it be in attendance or watching from a distance, I am absolutely enamored. I remember, as a child I attended a beautifully arranged and executed garden wedding whose theme, “Come Bloom with Us,” still inspires me to this day. As each guest arrived for this wedding, we were given little boxes and, with this having been my first time attending a wedding I, of course was clueless as to what is was. As the ceremony concluded we were instructed to open our boxes and give a little shake. To my amazement, hundreds of beautiful butterflies emerged from our boxes to fill the sky. I had never experienced anything quite like it, I was in shock! This was the moment I was first introduced to the magic of event planning Throughout my formative years I would always find myself helping family and friends with their private events. My passion eventually grew into a part time business in 2012, “Events by Anna LLC.” In 2019 I turned my side business into a full time career, rebranded myself, and relaunched as A.Marie Events. (Queue the slow fade of lights) Then the pandemic hit. One month after my official launch, everything was shut down. Nobody was having parties, getting married, or having meetings, so I went to creative mode! I asked myself “what can we do to celebrate during quarantine?” I started advertising yard decor for at home celebrations abs the responses were amazing! We did decor for drive by birthdays, graduations, and baby showers. I was determined to seek out those who still wanted to celebrate! I was still looking forward to planning large scale events. Now that restrictions are lifting and people are starting to come to together again I have to know what’s allowed and what isn’t for their events. What will keep them and their guests safe. We all want to celebrate but life is different now. We have to think different and do new things to make sure we can continue to have events in person!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m definitely a planner! Creating an itinerary is right up my alley. Colorado has so many amazing spots it’s hard to choose but food is key so let’s start there: The Denver Biscuit Co, Linger, Edge, Guard and Grace, Capital Grille, Oceanaire, Ocean Prime, North Italia, Biker Jim’s, Sam’s #3, Shanahans, Snooze, the list is extensive! You have your lengthy list of breweries and beer gardens to try out.

Then on to places like Red Rocks, Royal Gorge, Garden of the Gods, RMNP.

Live music is amazing in Colorado! Pre Covid there were so many shows every weekend. Hopefully one day it’s be how it use to be!

I love a good spa day so checking out the Brown Palace hotel and Spa for afternoon tea and spa treatments would just be the cherry on top!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First God, who gives me strength daily to keep going and allowing me to show light in a dark place.

My husband James is a big part of my success. He is full of great advice when it comes to how to run a lucrative business. He’s always willing to give me guidance on how to solve an issue or do something to make my business run smoother. His encouragement is what pushes me to keep going.
