We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Iseli and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was in-between jobs and did some soul searching at the time. I wanted a career in something that I was passionate about, and protecting the environment was just that. My husband and I had been taking steps to reduce the waste in our household, but found it difficult to do given the limited resources in our city. This gave me the vision for JOY FILL, and I decided to open a refill shop in my neighborhood. My hope was that it would be a place for people to learn more about the benefits of refills, and be a resource for anything zero-waste related.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JOY FILL is a zero waste concept refill shop in Denver, CO. We have a brick-and-mortar shop as well as an online shop. We sell a variety of natural and refillable personal care, beauty, and cleaning products in addition to a multitude of plastic-free and reusable merchandise.

A little about me … between managing employees, purchasing inventory, discovering new eco-friendly brands and strategizing for marketing opportunities, I have my hands full. I love the flexibility of my job, and that I can have both a fulfilling career while raising my children at the same time. My dad is a small business owner, so I would say I was raised to appreciate the hard work and dedication it takes to be an entrepreneur. There have been many challenges along the way, and I am sure there are even more to come, but I have always been humbled by our loyal following of customers. It warms my heart to read all the positive reviews and messages, and to know that my community appreciates what JOY FILL has been able to bring to the table.

What I want most for our customers, is for them to feel welcomed and encouraged when visiting JOY FILL. I want our store to be a place where you can come as you are, and feel confident in your journey to a lower waste lifestyle.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Now that I have a 2 year old and another baby on the way, I don’t get out as much as I used to. With that being said, there are plenty of spots that will always be my go-to’s whenever an out of town friend or family member visits.

Postino, Hops & Pie, Root Down, Fire on the Mountain, and Sweet Cow ice cream are a few of my favorite food spots.

We always make a stop at Red Rocks Amphitheater whether it be for a daytime hike or an evening concert.

In terms of activities, we try to get up to the mountains, checkout a sporting event, play some golf at a local course, brewery hop, or picnic in a nearby park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband 100%. He gave me the courage I needed to bring my vision to life. He has been involved in late night strategizing, moving 55 gallon drums across parking lots, and even spending the weekend finishing wood floors in our new space in order to save me money on renovations. JOY FILL would not exist today without the support and thoughtful advice I have had from my loving hubby over the last few years.

We moved about 3 blocks down the street from our old location, to 4340 W 35th Avenue, Denver Co 80212 (on the corner of 35th and Tennyson). Our new space is almost 3x the size of our old one, and we have been able to greatly expand our bulk refill offering since moving. Our hours remain the same, 10am-6pm daily.
