Meet Kassandra Brown | Cuddlist, Relationship Coach, and Online Course Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kassandra Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kassandra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When my family decided to move to Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage in rural Missouri, we knew I needed to do something different. I had been a yoga and meditation teacher and a stay at home mom for the last decade. My husband was an electrician. While those careers worked well in Boulder, CO they were not going to cut it at a car-sharing ecovillage in the middle of a county with more cows and soybeans than people.
I chose to pivot with my decade of experience working on wellness and awareness and my immersion in the world of attachment parenting to become a parenting coach. I met with my clients over the phone and Skype. It was great work and very challenging. When I moved back to Boulder in 2017 I decided to work with people’s bodies as well as minds – we store so much of our past, our longing, and our true selves in our bodies. I became a Cuddlist and love using my coaching skills in person to support people having a broad spectrum of relationship health.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Jerk-Proof Your Relationships is my favorite part of my business. As a relationship coach and Cuddlist I love working with people 1:1. I love being trustworthy, grounded, calm, and compassionate for whatever they are going through. I love helping people see the power and strength they have in their own lives. And I particularly love how being held by a calm, resilient nervous system allows my clients to heal from their trauma and embrace lives they love.
I can only hold so many people. Everyone deserves to be held like this. So I created Jerk-Proof Your Relationships. It’s the course that teaches the skills everyone can use to be that solid, grounded, loving, and resilient in their own lives. And to be that resource for other people. How amazing would it be if you could come home and feel really loved and seen by your partner and family? How amazing would it be if your co-worker is having a bad day and instead of you feeling used and abused you were able to listen, help them ground, and get back to creative work together?
I’m so passionate about the difference this course can make in the lives of everyone who values relationships, values themselves, and wants to learn skills that make it easier.
My own life has been dramatically improved by learning and using the skills I teach. It has not been easy. There has been divorce and co-parenting, homebirthing and attachment parenting. I’ve felt the peak of joy, deep abysses of hopeless sadness, and many many tears. I’ve taken thousands of hours of workshops and worked with hundreds (perhaps thousands now) of clients. I curated the best of what I’ve learned personally and with my clients and synthesized it into a great course. I love this work. I want to see you succeed in your relationships. I’d love to connect with you if you’d like to hear more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let’s say it’s a nice spring day, my best friend and I would look at each other and say “Let’s get outside!” We’d head up to Boulder to Chautauqua to see the Flatirons and wildflowers. We’d dip our toes in Boulder Creek and shriek at the cold. We’d head over to Flower Child for a Mother Earth Bowl and Flying Avocado Wrap.
Another day we’d invite some friends with small kids and go to the Zoo. We’d kale chips for snack then splurge on burgers and fries for lunch.
Next we’d take our camping gear and go to the Ceran St. Vrain trail for some unplugged time. Phones down, hiking on! If we’re lucky we’ll get to see a moose while we hike, read, and talk talk talk.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had so much fantastic support over the years. A big shoutout to: * my mentors around touch and consent – Dr. Betty Martin, Victor and Elena, and Madelon Guinazzo.
* my husband Chris and partner Megan
* my children Jasmine and Kaylyn
* inspiring teachers – Dr. Brene Brown on shame, vulnerability and leadership; Marshall Rosenberg on Nonviolent Communication; and Jerry Donoghue on Inner Empathy
It’s not easy to launch a business in such an alternative field. Thank you all and so many more who have supported, loved, and encouraged me.
