Meet Seth Levine | Venture Capitalist and Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Seth Levine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As I write this I’m just weeks way from the launch of my first book – called “The New Builders.” It’s about how the future of entrepreneurship lies with women and people of color and is a call to action to better support these New Builders if we are to keep our entrepreneurial edge as a country. The book is the culmination of about 2 years of research, interviewing, and writing by my co-author (Elizabeth MacBride) and me. It’s been a lot more work than I realized it would be (all while maintaining my day job as a venture capitalist) but it’s been a true labor of love and something that I feel incredibly passionate about. The work has already been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered, the BBC, and in a number of podcasts and other publications. It’s gratifying to see the subject resonating with so many people. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I hope my friend is ready to drive – there’s a lot of our state that they should see. Ranging from the Sangre de Christo mountains (and the Sand Dunes while they’re down that way), to Durango and the southwest part of our great state, to the beauty of the planes, to Fishers Peak – our newest state park near Trinidad in southern Colorado.

Closer to the front range, I’d make sure we had a chance to spend an evening at Black Cat Farms and their unique farm dinners, cozy in our private glass hut (complete with wood-burning stove to keep warm in any weather). Probably the most unique dining experience in Colorado.

And, of course, because we’re in Colorado we’d be sure to fit in some backcountry skiing (if my friend were here in winter) either up on Berthoud Pass or in the hills above Boulder and Nederland (all favorite spots of mine). In the summer we could hit some of those same trails on a mountain bike, or ride the dirt roads north of Boulder on our gravel bikes (which seem ubiquitous these days).

Other options that we should consider while we are in the front range include hitting the old school Lyons Pinball, grabbing a burger at My Brother’s Bar (a Denver legend), and sampling Rocky Mountain Oysters at the Buckhorn Exchange (making sure to wait until after they had tried them to let them in on the secret – exactly as some friends did for me 25 years ago when I first moved to Denver!).

That still might leave us time to catch a show at the DCPA or a nightcap at Don’s Mixed Drinks. Or maybe we’ll just call it a night….
