Meet Matison Card | Actor, Podcast Host, Singer-Songwriter, Model, Burlesque Dancer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matison Card and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matison, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I’ve always been fascinated with the idea that you can leave something behind. Sure we aren’t immortal, but if you put your heart and soul into your art- the art has a chance to be immortal. I often wonder if other artists feel that way. This yearning to leave behind a piece of yourself beyond the brief time your physical body was inhabiting this plane of existence. So many of the musicians, painters, writers lived long before my time, and yet I have taken such great inspiration and understanding in their work- I would love to do the same, to leave behind a body of work that outlives this meatsack I currently reside within.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My podcast, House of Card, goes into great detail of how and why I started working in this creative career. I sang in Colorado Children’s Chorale and acted in a plethora of theatre and musical theatre performances as a child, however my parents never allowed me to pursue my dream of being a childhood star. They allowed me to perform and train, but never allowed me to get an agent until I was 18. Naturally as soon as I was of age and allowed to make my own adult decisions, I went for it. Modeling, acting, singing, dancing- I wanted to do it all, so I did. It’s never been easy, this showbizz sort of lifestyle, but oh I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I love it with all that I am. That’s not to say that it’s been easy. I’ve worked for 8 years within this industry, and I am only now scratching the surface of what I want to do storytelling wise.

Most recently I co-starred in the feature film, “Safe House 1618,” and I have to tell you, it’s wildly brilliant. I am so grateful to have teamed up with Calvin T. Shepherd. He would hate that I’m saying this because he is so humble and kind, but he is the next Tarantino, mark my words. I’ve never met a writer that can spew out brilliant script after script after script in seemingly no time at all. I’m not entirely convinced he isn’t half robot or alien or something because he works faster than anyone I know. We have many great things planned in the future, and I can’t wait until we are able to share the details with you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be honest, I wouldn’t take them anywhere in the city. I would plan a backpacking trip out in nature for all of us to escape the city! I am wildly inspired by nature & deeply depressed by society. I love to drive deep into the mountains or along the coast with friends, find a campsite, have a bonfire and share a delicious meal- I mean what’s better than that? Being away from all the distractions, noise and overcrowded littered streets… that’s where peace is, contentment is, it’s away from all of that. Nature is where I take my people always, whether that be forests, mountains, or even deserts, I love spending my friend time in nature. We’d eat by the fire, explore the woods during the day, maybe play some giant jenga or put up the hammocks and sing songs by the river. I’m a simple joys kind of person. Throw in a baby deer sighting, and I just might shed a happy tear.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My professor and mentor in college, Rob Esposito. He trained me at a very pivotal point in my youth, and for that I am eternally grateful. The best dance teacher and guide I ever had. Jordan Bohme, my wonderfully supportive husband that has believed in me since day 1. Thank you for reminding me when it’s time to put down the computer and go frolic in the mountains with you.

I would like to also shoutout our entire 1618 cast and crew, specifically, Calvin T. Shepherd, Jamal Page, and Eli Holt. These gentlemen have worked night and day to make “Safe House 1618” what it is. You continue to inspire and support me every day. Thank you for teaching me that there can be community in showbizz.
