We had the good fortune of connecting with Kirsten DiCaprio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kirsten, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Finding work life balance is definitely something that I’m still working on. I think a lot of entrepreneurs have trouble finding their off switch. It feels like there’s always one more email to send or one last thing to check off on your to-do list. But I think it’s so important to take time to disconnect from your work. Even though I love what I do, I don’t want to be always working. I’ll do little things like turn off email notifications after a certain time, or delete social media apps over the weekend to “force” myself away for a bit. On a bigger level setting client expectations about communication and scope of work right off the bat help keep scope creep in check and keep my work load manageable.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Aspen Theory is a strategy-driven branding and web design studio helping entrepreneurs nurture the seed of their creativity to grow solid roots. We take the time to meaningfully understand our clients’ goals and desires in their business in order to take aligned strategic action to create beautiful brands that resonate with their ideal audience. We know beauty goes more than skin deep and our design practice is built from the inside out to reflect that.

The name for our business was actually inspired during a camping trip. Aspens grow through interconnected root structures, an entire forest of aspen trees can be made up of a single organism. I love the idea that out of a single seed can come something so powerful in its beauty and strength. I think of creativity and passion in a similar vein. With a single idea and strong conviction, we’re able to create something so much bigger than ourselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever people come to visit the first question I ask is what type of adventure they want to have? There’s so much to do, see, and explore in the area, Colorado is like one big playground.

For food, I’d definitely say…Safta if I’m trying to impress, Cart Driver for pizza and EXTRA sides of their focaccia, or my go-to burger spot Bad Daddy’s in Cherry Creek.

For an outdoor adventure, Brainard Lake is one of my favorite spots, there’s so much to do there all year round and it’s a perfect spot to bring hiking and “non-hiking” friends alike. If they’re down for a bit of a drive kayaking at Twin Lakes in Leadville is one of my favorite summer activities. And of course Rocky Mountain National park!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my clients! They are endlessly inspiring to me and I feel so honored to get the opportunity to work with such passionate and driven people every day. Their love for their craft and genuine desire to improve their communities with their services, products, and ideas is the reason I do what I do.
