We had the good fortune of connecting with Kseniya Parsons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kseniya, how do you think about risk?
RISK REAPS REWARD. So many people go throughout their lives never knowing their potential because they refused to take leaps when given the chance. Risk to me is the most important way to find out what you’re made of. You’ll never know how talented you are, or how much hard work you are capable of if you are not willing to stretch your passions. People are so scared to fail when it is this failure that sheds light on direction and helps you gain wisdom.

Alright, can you open up a bit about your work? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I noticed a strange attraction to the surrealism art form early on in life. There was something special to everyday objects in abnormal circumstances. When I discovered my passion for drawing, I too dabbled in surrealism. However, charcoal and lead mediums did not sooth the depression I struggled with for many years. Therefore, I started to also work with acrylic paint in an abnormal way. The brighter the painting, and the more abstract it was, the more joy it brought to my every day life. Now, being 21, I spent most of my time freelancing and working with geometric shapes. Again, the brighter the piece, the happier I am with it. No matter what I paint or draw, I want someone’s eye to have to take a second look. I always want there to be more to a piece than the paint on the exterior of the canvas. I always believe there is a deeper story and I want to dedicate my time to showing this through my art.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver is such a cool city with many places to discover art and contemporary architecture.

I would first take a friend downtown Denver to 16th street. A place for the contemporary tourist with many shopping opportunities and restaurants. Then I would head down to the springs to feed them some Costa Vida, and maybe join a drop-in volleyball or basketball group.
Then I would introduce them to Manitou Springs. A place to taste some terrible natural mineral water, and to hike maybe the Incline. Garden of the Gods would have to be a must, and maybe a trip to the painted mines. Luckily, there are so many things to do in Colorado, and Denver/Springs is just the start.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to Leonid Afremov. A contemporary artist whose life was nothing special. A man who had to sell his art door to door in Israel since many of the galleries despised his Russian heritage. A man whose life was defined by hard work and vibrant colors in a time where social and political upheaval kept the human mind from exploring new art forms. Leonid saw the world through an extraordinary lens. I hope that I too will remember the importance of vibrant colors and always spend my efforts bringing joy to others.
