Meet Brittney Carpenter | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Carpenter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I’ve always placed a lot of importance on community, especially in terms of achieving success. What good is making it to the top without a community or loved ones to enjoy it with, I say. In order to achieve success, we require the support of others, and in turn, they require it from us. We can offer it with integrity and a genuine desire to see the people around us succeed with us, and lead ourselves to a life of opportunity and stable relationships, or we can offer it selfishly and come to color our lives in an entirely different life. For me, to be successful is defined by the amount of happiness felt, not just by me, but by those around me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am riddled with imposter syndrome trying to answer this question. I rarely get to know an experience for what it is until I am looking in hindsight at the events of my life. To me, I am hardly an artist…or, to be kind to myself, I am an emerging one. I think, hearing the way I am trying to explain this, I know the greatest obstacle in my path of creative pursuit has been myself and my fear of both failure and success in the creative sphere, as both seem to draw attention and criticism in equal parts. To pursue art is to pursue your own vulnerability, which is a daunting task for someone like me. But I always walk away grateful for having done so. I am lucky to have the support and confidence of my peers, communities of creatives in every corner of every place I’ve lived. The biggest lesson I’m learning is to be open to the idea of success, or even just expression, and letting myself go for it. If I ever create something so good that the world becomes interested in my brand or my story, I’d just like for the world to know that they just have to let themselves go for it, too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve lived in Denver for most of my life and know from experience that there are so many wonderful things to see and do here and in Colorado on the whole. If I were to have a friend visit on a week long excursion, let’s say, coming in on a morning flight, my first stop would be Rosenberg’s bagels for everything bagels and lots of rugelach for later. The next morning we’d be up early and headed out of the city to soak in one of the many beautiful hot springs around the mountain range. The next morning, we’re off to hike something scenic and fun, like Cascade Creek Trail. Back down to the city to spend the remainder of our days visiting the Denver Art Museum, the MCA, Dikeou, Santa Fe and its many eclectic art galleries. We’d absolutely have to make a stop in at Vinh Xuong Bakery for bahn mi and milk tea to bring for an afternoon picnic in the park. After that, we’d spend the remainder of the trip enjoying the beautiful weather walking around downtown.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As I mentioned previously, I am all about community. I can say with confidence that I couldn’t be half of the person I am today without the people who have loved and supported me through my life. My family and the many other families I was a part of as a child come first in my heart and for my gratitude, followed shortly by the wonderful collection of friends I have made along the way, In terms of my professional life and acting career, I couldn’t be doing what I am doing without the understanding of my superiors at The Herbal Cure and the creatives at Devil Red Films, Outsider Films and Black Sparrow Media who have provided me with the space and confidence to pursue these creative endeavors. I am so grateful for you all and lucky beyond measure.
