Meet Cierra Covington | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Covington and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cierra, why did you pursue a creative career?
I had originally went to college to become a teacher. My first year of teaching would have been fall 2020 during the pandemic. Because everything was changing so rapidly, I put that off and started focusing on my photography. And through spending so much extra time learning about photography, I realized that it’s something that I eventually would want to do full-time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Something I notice while looking at other photographers pages is how cohesive their aesthetic is. They all have a “look”. When I see mine, I always think it looks out of sorts. But that’s because I like to take pictures of all things portraiture. It can range from newborn pictures, to weddings, Halloween photos, graduations etc. Because I do not only shoot one genre of photography, my style does change from shoot to shoot. And while I use mostly natural light, I do like going for the moody tones. Sometimes I feel like I need to pick one thing and go with it, but then I remember something that I love about photography is you’re not confined to a particular thing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As far as favorite places to go for pictures, I definitely think we are spoiled here in Colorado. Not only can you do a rooftop session in the city, but you can also be at a mountain location within 30 minutes. Mount falcon the west trail head will always be one of my favorites. The first time I went there I was a little under prepared in flip-flops and ended up hiking for a photo shoot. Now that I have been there so many times, I have certain spots that I like to go to where my clients don’t also have to hike too far.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
While there are so many people who have supported me in doing photography, a couple of the first people I think about my grandparents. They bought me my first two cameras I had ever owned. Which I couldn’t have found this passion without that. And I am very grateful for them.
